Wow 2 from GU and 4 of the 5 from the eastside of WA state.

SPOKANE, Wash. – (Feb. 8, 2007 – www.gozag.com (http://www.gozag.com/)) Gonzaga University women’s basketball senior Stephanie Hawk and sophomore Jami Bjorklund have both been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. Both Hawk and Bjorklund earned first-team honors in District 8 which includes student-athletes from NCAA Division I schools in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

Five total student-athletes, including Hawk and Bjorklund, were selected to the District 8 first-team and will now be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. Also joining Hawk and Bjorklund on the first-team were Joanna Chadd (Eastern Washington University), Kate Benz (Washington State University), and Jennifer Hall (Loyola Marymount University).

Hawk graduated with a 3.60 GPA in business administration and currently holds a 3.84 GPA after her first semester as a MBA graduate student. The native of Ontario, Ore., who earned third-team All-District honors a season ago, currently leads the Bulldogs with 14.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. Hawk has scored in double-figures point in 20 out of the Zags 25 games, including seven 20+ point games and one 30+ point game. She has nine double-doubles to her credit, including seven double-doubles in West Coast Conference action. Hawk became just the 12th Gonzaga player to score over 1,000 points this season, became only the 11th player to grab over 600 rebounds and only the sixth player to score 1,000 and grab 600 in their career. Hawk has earned WCC Player of the Week three times this season and was named the WCC Player of the Month for January.

Bjorklund currently holds a 3.93 GPA in business administration. The Spokane, Wash., native is currently averaging 9.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Bjorklund has scored in double-figure points in 13 Bulldogs games, including two 20+ point performances. She scored a then career-high 21 points against 2nd ranked University of North Carolina and then bested her career-high when she dropped 25 points against the University of San Francisco.

Stephanie and I have had many classes together the last four years. She is a class act, a great student, and it's great to see her get recognized for it. Good find coach!!!
