20.4ppg and 8.8rpg in WCC-like competition.

Now at 6'8" and bulky and athletic.

6'8"!?! I thought he topped out at 6'6". That's some great news in itself.

Should be exciting next year with all of the new talent coming in.

Looks like Elias may want to stick inside the 3-point line though. :D

But at 80% from the line with seemingly solid rebounding #s and reportedly good athleticism... this kid could be a real find.

His stats look very consistant. Also, a couple 30 point games. Wow can't wait to see this kid!

I google frequently for news of Elias, but most of the hits are on German language sites, so I come away not much wiser. However, I did glean from this site (http://www.schoenen-dunk.de/basketball/bbl/article.php?sid=32280) today that he's one of 18 players invited to the German U20 training camp May 21 - 24 in Paderborn, in preparation for the European Championships in Rhodes, Greece July 16, 2009 to July 28, 2009 (http://www.fibaeurope.com/cid_KNce8jInH7Qj1EsyH5rjn2.pageID_46,dm6WBILc7p1Wv 9p45w1.compID_UIfgjyQcGqk-fPlnl66Tj0.season_2009.roundID_6623.html).

It's important to note that Elias' U20 team will be in Division A this summer with the best of the best in Europe (France, Serbia, Greece, Spain, etc.). Last summer his U20 German team won Division B (Sweden, etc.) and he was high scorer and second-leading rebounder at something like 14.5 and 7.

The thing about Elias is, he's almost 20 so physical maturity is not an issue, plus he is improving by leaps and bounds, going from a poor ballhandler to a good ballhandler in a year while steadily increasing his offensive and defensive numbers.

With Elias, I feel like the Zags matched their first couple lottery numbers, and now we're just waiting for the last few numbers to be called so we can see if GU has won the big jackpot. (TRANSLATION: Right now there's a lot left for fans to learn about Elias' game, but, based upon the info we have so far, it appears the Zags may have hit it big).

Does that make any sense?? I know it's a strange analogy.

How does he compare to say Jeff Taylor?

I'm in awe of Coach and Staff's recruitment of an under the radar class of 09 filled with athletes that have both size and skill, each capable of playing multiple positions. Our WCC brethern scoff at our positive outlook over what's yet to come. When the newest version of our Zags jell in the 09-10 season they may be as potent as any Zag team ever to play on the hardwood. There is time for familiarity with this group and they have the potential to be the number one Zag team ever whether this coming season or the one after.

We are blessed.

Go!! Zags!!!

No one talks about him redshirting. That speaks volumes for me.

How does he compare to say Jeff Taylor?

Very similar. Bulkier than Taylor. Elias is an inch or two taller. Taylor is more of a 3/4, Elias is more of a 4/3. Taylor shot it more and scored higher vs Euro competition. Roughly equal athletically. Taylor earned SEC Frosh of the Year, scoring 12+ppg and 6+rpg. If Elias can come as close to Taylor as it appears he can, it'll be very good. Say, 10-11ppg. We should thrilled if he can give the Zags that.

Are THESE the guys that will finally get us to the final four? :-)

Tyrus Thomas, whose game is rather similar to Elias, helped lead LSU to the Final Four while averaging 12 pts and 8.9 boards during his freshman season. ;)

By the way, Tyrus thomas was only a three-star recruit by rivals.com.

BZ,

Sounds like Elias is one of the stars in the class. I was wondering how your assessment of his league being "wcc-like competition" was made.

Thanks!

I asked a coach who frequents Europe and that was his comparison.
