    Next Year's Backup PG

It seems pretty obvious that Meech will be the primary PG next year. But who's running the team when Meech is on the bench? There's no obvious "pure" PG who can back him up. But there are 3 combo-guards who can fill that roll, Matt, Gray and Gibbs. Will they *all* back up Meech, or do you think one will emerge as the primary backup PG?

Some styles demand a PG and this is defined by circumstances of the game. Some don't. I'm not so sure Meech is the PG for all games next year. He's still pretty inexperienced. He did a nice job filling in this year but he needs some serious experience running the show.

Meanwhile Matt did a nice job when called on to run the team this year. He blossomed. Gibbs is (haven't seen him play yet in person) supposed to be quite capable and has an advanced understanding of the offense. I don't think it'll be "PG by committee" but it'll be more diverse than just Meech. He looks to be the one though...for now anyway.

Abe, I agree that Meech is green at this point. Generally in the GU system guards make huge strides between the first and second year. Meech will be in charge more often than not. I believe Few really loves his game and his competitiveness. But when he sits, your right about Matt he can do it. And Gibbs maybe, but knowing the offense and playing against D-1 defense is really different.

Matt will run the point a lot. He and Meech on the court at the same time will mean mixing it up, switching PG duties throughout the game. Meech would be a great, fearless slasher at the 2 guard. Think Q and Santangelo.

Bouldin's skills make this question a bit less critical, perhaps, than normal.

            If I were Mark Few

I would start Meech, Matt, and Gray, but first sub out is whoever is playing the worst each game.

            This would be beneficial because:

            1. It would keep those guys motivated
            2. We could switch to a bigger lineup after the first timeout, yet still allow those guys to start because they have earned it
            3. It would throw off the other team starting with 3 guards and then mixing it up with another lineup.
            4. I think we have too much talent at the wing to waste it
            It's F4 or bust.

The biggest question mark is who in the heck is going to effectively guard the point of attack when Goodson is out? Gonzaga has a bunch of 6-5 combo guards, and none of them move their feet well enough to stay in front of small, quick athletic point guard like Patty Mills or Brandon Johnson.

Hey, it was elbows this year...why not tripping next?

Oh, and why is everyone so sure that Meech is the starting PG next year?

Uber could see MB and Gray starting in the guard spots with Daye at 3. It remains to be seen if Meech can takeover the full-time duties, as so far he has just proven he is a great change of pace guy like Maurice Morris backing up Alexander.

Abe, have you been dipping in the Oxycontin again?
