Ernie Kent will be given a 13th season as the Oregon men’s basketball coach, though “staff adjustments” will be made in the wake of the decision to retain the school’s winningest coach after the worst season of his dozen years at his alma mater.

An announcement from the UO department of athletics is expected today. Kent did not respond to a message left for him Tuesday night, but the coach met with his players earlier in the day to inform them that he had been assured he would return for next year.

Pat Kilkenny, the UO director of athletics, also did not respond to messages left for him Tuesday evening.

Sources contacted Tuesday evening indicated Kent had been told next season would have to be successful, and the adjustments probably will include a change in personnel among his three full-time assistant coaches.http://www.registerguard.com/csp/cms/sites/web/news/cityregion/10949309-41/story.csp

As goofy as it sounds, this makes sense. It would have been a mistake for an outgoing AD to hire a new coach in a lame duck term. Maybe Ernie will have enough success to continue the mediocrity of Oregon BB.

Not an April Fools joke, right?

One down (for another year at least) and one to go (Arizona) ... Begone, Pac-10!

not sure if I would call two elite 8's in the last 10 years or so mediocre. Especially considering the school's "success" before he arrived. I can't believe I am defending Oregon (not a fan), I just think before last season they had a pretty good streak going, considering.

UW beat writer Bob Condotta also is reporting the same news, along with a note about Coach Few and UA ...

Canzano can longer use the Kilkenny/Few friendship angle.

Canzano can longer use the Kilkenny/Few friendship angle.

John C has to see trouble brewing on the horizon:

1) No more "Pat K was hired specifically to get Mark Few to Gonzaga"
2) Belotti is remarrying his ex-wife, Canzano and ex-wife-to-be-non-ex aren't on the best terms.

Imagine that! I heard Canzano say on KGW's Sunday sports show a few months ago that Ernie wouldn't last the current season.

Oregon has decided to retain head coach Ernie Kent for at least one more year, though he’s being asked to make staff adjustments, according to the Register-Guard (http://www.registerguard.com/csp/cms/sites/web/news/cityregion/10949309-41/story.csp) in Eugene.
The Ducks apparently made a run at Gonzaga coach Mark Few, but he had several reasons for staying put...

If people only knew how serious Oregon was this time around. Not as serious as Kentucky, but it was really serious. GU must have really stepped up big.

A note about sources, since a few other posters took some grief earlier. Believe me, there are impeccable sources that do some extremely-limited talking. While it is easy to find sources about recruits, etc., it is REALLY hard to get information from certain inner sanctums. Personally, I learned some information about this earlier last month, and my relief today is immense.
