What's Up with Westview's 2010 Garret Jackson, Portland Metro POY?

    From the Beaverton Valley Times:
    Boys Basketball

    Metro League

    First Team

Garrett Jackson, jr., Westview; Michael Holton jr., sr., Sunset; Kyle Wiltjer, so., Jesuit; D’Angelo Davis, jr., Beaverton; Kevin Sullivan, sr., Southridge; Stephen Holt, jr., Jesuit.

Player of the Year: Garrett Jackson, Westview

Coach of the Year: Gene Potter, Jesuit
I was just surprised to see Jackson get the Player of the Year honor.

Near as I can tell, Scout hasn't deigned to award him a profile (Scout's gotten on my last nerve! Grr!)

A recent photo of the young man:

Here is his Rivals page, with the Zags listed and Leon Rice as a contact and an offer from Portland.
    Small forward
    Portland (OR) Westview
    AAU: Team Jones
    Ht: 6-foot-6
    Wt: 190 lbs
    GPA: 3.32
ESPN gives him a 75 Scout Grade, with this eval:
February, 2009: Jackson is an intriguing face-up 4-man for the low Division I level. He has a wiry frame with long arms and broad shoulders and it has room to fill out over the course of his career. Despite his slight frame, he has bounce and is quite skilled and effective in the post. He can use either hand on the block and knows how to score in the post. In addition to his post game, he is a great competitor at both ends. Going into his senior season, he'll need to polish up his face-up game and become a more consistent shooter, but the upside is there.
So, what do you think? On the Zags radar? Zag-level talent? We should be able to follow him on Team Jones AAU this spring and summer.

Scout sucks, I used it for awhile back in the day and then I found out about Rivals, comparing the two lately, Rivals wins hands down.

Well, BZ says "No." Nada. Zip. No-can-do. BZ says "Ni!"

"Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say Ni at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress in this period in history."

I think he'd take a 2011 guy off that First Team, though.

Are we really having a which is better thing on Rivals and Scout? Rivals may cover the events better, but they still have the same problems updating information of non top 50 recruits, moving rankings without rhyme or reason, making rankings politically based and slanted against certain players just because of the way one of the scouts PERSONALLY feels about a players personality as opposed to what they should professionally do.

Obviously I can't see behind the scenes, but from an impartial point of view Rivals IS better.

Oh, you're absolutely right, Rivals as a whole is better, the comment wasn't really pointed against your opinion, just a bit cynical of the system of which they are a part of.

How sweet would Kyle Wiltjer and Brett Kingma be for Gonzaga in 2011?

Very sweet, great combination. Wonder what jewels may be after that have not yet been revealed.

Saw in the Coeur d'Alene press that Greg is going to be one of the North Idaho College's first inductees into their Sports Hall of Fame.
