I didn't watch the 2nd day last year I was so depressed after that loss. MUCH nicer this year... Now if only we can make it out of the 1st weekend...

Hopefully I can go 14/16 today, like yesterday.

I'm rootin' hard for Utah State.

ditto that

Also hoping Stephen can take down the Cuse, but I think it'll be hard for one guy to beat a whole team...

fun fact: 5 of GU's regular season opponents (6 if PSU wins) will play in the 2nd round.

Today is the day where I either win big on my bracket, or I sink into obscurity. Picked Utah State to beat Marquette, and Arizona St is my sleeper Sweet 16 pick, so better not trip against temple.

Early Notes:

1) What is up with the lighting in Boise? A lot of shadows and bright white spots. Some needs to hire some pros, not the stagehands from the drama club at the local junior high.

2) Syracuse is looking good but also I think SFA has quite a few jitters in their first go.

3) The Utah State/Marquette game might be the game of the day.

4) Early cocktails? Yes, coffee taste better with a little Irish feeling

I thought that maybe:

minor altitude issues + Maq's injurie(s) + playing on the court every year = decent chance Utah St pulls the upset

Looks like I was wrong...

I drank some of the Utah State koolaid also, Lothar. . .I think I let their performance vs. UNR in the WAC championship game sway me too much. I also pull for Coach Morrill (sic) since he's a Zag

KU vs. NDSU is definitely the "drama" game of the morning. . .the other ones are close but I can't bring myself to watch another Tenn game and the Utah State game is a little like watching a Wazoo - Wisconsin game

Woodside and Collins are really fun to watch.

Great guard play is one of the hallmarks of a champion in the Big Dance.

ASU up by 6 over Temple at the 10:30 mark

Re: betting the chalk:

Chalk - When a horse is the favorite -- or has the most money bet on it -- that horse is termed the "chalk." Interestingly, this term comes from the pre-computer era of the bookie. When a bookie recorded bets on a blackboard, the odds would change over and over as more and more people bet on the favorite. The horse became known as the "chalk" because the horse's name would disappear in chalk dust as the bookie constantly erased and lowered the horse's odds."

Temple going down cost me quite a few dollars and I apparently forgot it was Huggins at the helm, not Beilein. WVU looks atrocious. I need the PSU Vikings to save the day after a 3-3 start yesterday. C'mon big spender.

If you watched the WKU-Illinois game last night, you'll notice that Dayton is a spittin' image of Western Kentucky. Both teams spread you out, rely on penetration by their numerous big and athletic guards, and knock down open shots. They create for others by driving and dishing out the entire game. They take what the defense gives them. If you crowd the lane, they shoot over you. If you spread your defense they drive and score. I compared WKU to Villanova earlier, but a better example would be this Dayton team that just took down one of the hottest teams in the country in WVU.

After watching Utah State lose to Marquette, I am still appreciating the way the Aggies ran their offense, especially in the second half. Their interior passing, cutting and ball movement was a thing of beauty. Stew M. did a great job of coaching witsh these kids. I also loved the way that bunch of seniors fron NDSU gave the wunderkinder of Kansas a lesson how how the game should be played. Kansas had too much speed and athleticism, but those Viking seniors were sure basketball players.
