How would I determine if CBS or Comcast or ESPN plan to carry this game and
avoid them telecasting some other game instead of the Zags victory over Akron? I live in the Bay Area and want to move quickly on this if possible.

It won't be on ESPN, all games are CBS. But I think it varies from market to market on which local games you get.

Excellent! I have a corporate meeting that afternoon and was stressing since I actually have to attend (the CEO is giving me an award and apparently it is in bad form to blow him off - go figure). However, I now have ample time to be awarded, drink free beer and eat free food and then wander to the bar for the game!

I couldn't ask for a better time...6:25 in Dallas. I'll be at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Irving, TX (I-635 & MacArthur). I'll be easy to spot, quaffing a Guinness, wearing my Zag gear.

Still, I need to check with a few of my fellow alums in the Metroplex.

I'm thinking about Heroes and Legends about 2 pm that afternoon.

Incidentally, if you look at the link originally provided by tbonedazag and relinked here you will note the second round game in GU's bracket is listed at either 2:40pm or 5:10pm PDT Saturday.

Yes, in the middle of the bracket, under the champion box, there is a note that says **ALL TIMES LOCAL** so 4:25 is 4:25 in Portland/PDT.

GO ZAGS!!!!!!

Not much time between the end of the UW game (2pm tip) and the start of the Zags/Zips clash (4:25pm tip). The arena will be cleared after the UW game and all must re-enter. That will be chaos!

That was my thought, as well. I'll be there; I'll let you know how it goes.

Same thing happened 2 years ago in Sacramento. It's a bit annoying, but not too bad. If you are there when they open the doors for the evening session, you won't miss that start. (and they will delay the start of GU's game if needed)

The news just kept getting better today. I am so excited it is in the afternoon. My Thursday schedule is not at all conducive to being in my classroom near my computer (unlike Fridays) so I was a little worried if we had a mid-day game that I would miss it. Now we'll have time to pick up the munchkin, get home and watch as much as the annoying local CBS coverage will allow or hit the laptop. Any word on the games that it will be up against? I know in the next couple of days, the regional schedule should be out but just curious if I should be worried down in the Bay Area.

This is just my quick and dirty estimate, zagirl ...

It looks like the only other "western" team playing during the night session is ...

UCLA. But ... you should be okay.

Playing in Philadelphia, they follow the Villanova/American game, which tips at 7:20 Philadelphia time (assuming they are still ET, that is 4:20 PT).

Other afternoon session match-ups (local time/ believed PT):

Greensboro
Texas - Minnesota, 7:10/4:10
Duke - Binghampton, + 30 minutes after

Kansas City
Clemson - Michigan, 6:10/4:10
Oklahoma - Morgan State, + 30 after

Philadelphia
Villanova - American, 7:20/4:20
UCLA - VCU, + 30 after

Portland
Gonzaga - Akron, 4:25/4:25
Illinois - Western Kentucky, + 30 after

So it looks like we will be the last game to start, of the second session, on day one ... if nothing else, the end of the game should be national barring OTs and other disclaimers.

2 thoughts

1) The Gonzaga game may start way later than scheduled. The other 3 games during that block will start on time because they are the 1st game of the session, but in the west it will only start on time if the Washington game ends as scheduled. So if either the N Iowa/Purdue game OR the Washington game runs late, it will cause a delay in the Zag game.

2) The only game in the entire tournament that is blacked out nationally on CBS is the 2nd game of the morning session in the west on Thursday. They don't even do the "check-in" like they will with all other games. It traditionally is played at 2:00 Pacific time when no other games are scheduled. CBS goes to soap operas except in the local markets of the 2 participating teams. So the Huskies got thrown into the black-out zone, which makes me chuckle.

According to TV Guide, it will be up against:
Oprah
America's Funniest Home Videos
People's Court
Golden Girls
Little People, Big World
and Awesome Pawsome

I guess I will just have to catch up with Estelle and the rest of the Girls next week.

Between tv and online, we should be okay out west I think. Though I always expect the unexpected when it comes to tv coverage on CBS. Power outages and other random things always seem to pop up at the worst times.
