View Full Version : March Madness on Demand

Kiddwell's a bit confused about this year's online free (NCAA 1st round) games. Formerly (every year) a viewer had to actually subscribe (for free). I don't see that provision this time around.

So, is everyone now automatically able to log in and see the games just by visiting the site? Anyone know? Too soon to know?

This "live" option, by the way, proved a life saver for Kiddwell a few NCAA Dances ago when the UCLA game was delayed for (as I recall) a bomb scare. It was delayed into the Zags' game, in fact, which bumped the Zags right off the local station (Los Angeles).

So, if you don't live in an area where the Zags aren't going to be bumped for anyone no matter what (and you can bet your dog "Towzer" on that!), you may want to visit/revisit the site.

Another thing: The games are archived for later replay.

One final thing: Not all browsers work. If you're operating a MAC (and what straight-thinking person isn't?), Firefox works. So does, I think, Safari.

I think that they added a ton of bandwidth so that they can handle everyone watching instead of signing up and having to wait in line like in the past

That would be fantastic. I actually get March madness on DirecTV, but like to have the computer sitting there with another game on it, so I can kinda watch both, and it seemed I was always just waiting, even when I had signed up!

LIZF, did you get an email for VIP? If so, I should've got one too, but haven't so far.

This seems like what has happened. I signed up for a "reminder" e-mail several weeks ago and haven't received one yet, so I'm assuming there will be no VIP this year, but I don't know, the MMOD page wasn't very clear about things...

I just received a reminder email. No mention of VIP. I doubt they are doing that this year.

same here Jakester... I have done the VIP thing the last 2-3 years (whenever it started) but it doesn't look like it exists this season. HD will be nice as well for those times I want to watch a game the Slingbox in Seattle doesn't cover.

Other options, just in case for folks that are out there to watch sports on the web that I have found (many of you already know these but this might help a few)...

What is weird is that I DID get an e-mail regarding VIP and now they seem to have done away with it.

It's up and ready now: http://mmod.ncaa.com/

Might be a good idea to fire it up now to watch some of the clips from previous tourneys just to make sure it works for you and to see if the HD option doesn't slow your computer to a crawl...

I just fired it up, seems to work fine. I rewatched the end of hte zags/ucla game for a couple years ago. Still hurts.

If worse comes to worse tomorrow as far as getting out of work and finding a spot to watch the game, I will have my laptop with me and use my cell as a modem. I'm at least able to watch the lower quality video historical highlights they've got up.
Guess I'll be able to watch some games on my lunch break, too!

I am signed up for Direct TV baskeball package, I live in MS, so I never get the Zags and end up going to some sports bar, but this year we got direct tv and I am wondering whether that means that I will get all the games on TV or whether I need to sign up for a "tournament package"-- Special thanks to anyone who knows.

My hi-speed connection at work is working great with the HD player - I don't have a dedicated video card, which I imagine hurts, but I can't complain about the quality of the video - now if only Butler could get their act together.

the video looks good - when it's not buffering. (i actually think it more of a problem internal to the office, not from cbs/ncaa. it happened last year at work, but not at home) i really like that they have several levels you can set the video at depending on your capacity. for those that have to watch the GU game online it should be pretty good - especially since there are a lot less online viewers during the evening session.

I'm watching on a laptop over a wireless connection. No buffering whatsoever. Really enjoying the quality so far.

any of the games blacked out online for anyone? I'm pretty sure they've stopped doing that, but wanted to make sure it's not just me.

working great (unlike me - ha) at work here... now i just have to keep my office door closed so too many co-workers don't find out about it and take away enough bandwith at our company and slows it down!! Surprisingly clear in HD format.

GO MATADORS!! That would be awesome - gotta love upsets (except when it's against the Zags).

You have to buy the $69 package to have that ability to switch between games.

MMoD working good for me at work. The only thing I don't like is it freezes you out during commercials so you can't switch between games or view stats or do anything during the commercial breaks. That stinks.

have this page up in another window:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/scoreboard

go to it and click the "watch now!" button on another game and it'll change the video for you.

you'll get a 15 second ad, but it's better than several minutes of ads...

I spent the $5 just out of curiosity of what it looks like. Pretty sweet but it won't run on 3G network. You need to have wifi access. It is pretty cool to watch on your phone but absolutely kills battery.

I have it on now at home watching UW and Miss St. Good feed, not too bad at all.

Will need it for the GU game too, KC will be showing the Texas v. Minn game.

So thank goodness there is something out there.

BTW, did you notice the "Boss Button" on the CBS video player? Awesome! I wonder how much money is lost in productivity on days the tournament runs during the week.

In case there are issues w/ MMOD (http://mmod.ncaa.com/), remember that several "channels" on justin.tv will have tourney games.

JAGzag it must be your internet connection. Click the "Video Quality" one way or the other on the bottom of the screen and that will help a great deal.

MY biggest (well only) complaint with this thing is the extremely annoying Pontiac commercials that are about twice as loud as the game broadcast. They also come on about every other timeout forcing me to adjust the volume constantly.

Uber watched all of the WKU - Illini game on MMOD on his projection screen last night. Worked liked a charm.
