Hey all just got back in from vegas and it was fricken amazing!!!! I love vegas anyway but getting to watch my 2nd favorite team tear up people in the conference tourney was great.

First off wanted to say thanks to Hondo for getting me the tickets to the game thnx man!

I'm not sure what is worked out with the WCC but if that is something they could do if not every year but every other year it would be a hit. Haven't run into anyone even fans from the other schools that didn't have a blast down there. Orleans was perfect for this tournament as well, great arena and they hotel when we were their looked like it was perfect for holding this type of event. If possible they should keep it their, thomas and mack center although bigger just wouldn't have the same type of atmosphere. I know for 1 though my whole groupp of 6 will definitely be there if it is in vegas again.

That being said, vegas was swarming with zag fans! Every where we went from the Monte Carlo where we stayed all the way over to fremont street after the santa clara game the zags were very well represented. It will be interesting if they have it down their again to see if they get the same amount of representation.

Games were great. (zags pocketed me several hundred for covering each game :P) Although coming from being a UW season ticket holder the lack of competition in the wcc for the zags did help to keep my thoughts on their domination in check, would have loved to see some good close games but GU is just un matched in this conference.

We were at the pregame function in the irish bar before but didn't make it up to the official function in the banquet room only because it was so packed, that really would be my only complaint, definitely need a bigger area if we are going to be there again.

Anyway's this was a perfect vacation and I loved talking to friends at home hearing how it was snowing back in seattle while it was perfect and 70+ out!

p.s. Btw in the airport in saturday definitely had some zag fans rooting for UW in the bar with us as we beat the cougs, nice to see not all of you hate my team :P

dawgfather: right on. I was tempting to go myself too. The Zags are my second favorite team too, after a certain team located in Seattle who play in the Pac 10. But Vegas is always my kind of town, and I stayed in Planet Hollywood over the new year over there. I think I will go there next year. One question for you though: how would the Zags fan treat you if you wear a Zags shirt, and your favorite school's hat to the game. Seriously, that's what I was planning to do if I go to a Zags game.

How would you feel if a Zag fan showed up to a UW game wearing a husky shirt and a Zag hat? I think you might find your answer in that.

I 2nd that Dawgfather. Vegas was amazing! Far and away my best trip ever and I have been down about about 25 times. First off I would like to say that Zag Nation is the best group of fans around. The arena was about 95% Zag fans and it felt like a game in the Spokane Arena. Not sure how many drove down, but guys are the true fans. I hope you all made it back safe to fridgid Spokane.

BZ hit it on the nose after the USC Upstate game as being just what the Dr. ordered. They are playing some if not the best ball they have played all year. Pargo seems to be a bit banged up as he was getting worked on almost everytime he came out of the game. Looked like stretches for the groin. Any word on that? GOODSON GREW UP IN A BIG WAY MONDAY NIGHT. THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT.

Now back to the present.

As for covering a few bets, our group of 5 cleared over 3k from Hooters sportsbook.:D

All in all just an amazing expierence. A+

Not everyone gets to meet the esteemed Hondo.

I'd have no problem with that. I think you assume UW fans hate GU the same way GU fans hate UW. That's not the case. I graduated from UW almost 6 years ago. Trust me, at that time, GU and UW wasn't much of a rivary. Since we didn't make the tourney often at that time, we rooted for GU. GU was a cute story from the other part of the state. We were more focusing on our football rivary with Oregon and WSU. Now, we've become more competitive in the last 6 years in basketball, but we are by no means Zag envy. I don't think we hate the Zags or are jealous about the Zags success in MAKING in to the tourney every year. I certainly don't see UW fans ripping the Zags every day on our message board.

Let me make this clear: we don't support our AD / Romar canceling the UW _ GU series. If we have a say on our scheduling, we would schedule to play the Zags every year, even if we go 1-9 over the next 10 seasons. That series need to be renewed. I think that pretty much sums up how we feel about GU.

Schedule us and less Zag Fans would dislike UW. The animosity was created, not inert. I think most Zags root for WSU and they would be a closer rival.

Sorry Sun, but your summary only details how you (and maybe a group of people you know) feel about the Zags. You're simply not getting the whole picture, Sun. Cause parts of that picture aint too pretty.

I don't claim to speak for all UW fans, but believe me, enough of their comments on this board (and the UW board) have more than painted an accurate enough picture for me of the way some UW people feel about the "cute" little program to the east. There has been animosity, jealousy, a serious inferiority complex, and enough derogatory comments about the Zags and their fans launched over the cascades by some UW hoops fans over the past 10 years to leave me without a care if UW ever won another basketball game.

Have Zag fans always acted their best? No. I don't claim that they have. That would be naive.

The fact that UW canceled the rivalry upset me at first. But now, I could care less. We don't need them to schedule high quality opponents. We don't need them for anything. And if it keeps little minded UWers off this board, so be it. We've played games against MUCH higher quality opponents who's fans have come on the board and acted like adults. I, for one, would rather play Memphis, or teams of that consistent quality whose fans don't need to build their team up by tearing another (in state) team down.

Ditto.

There are constant Zag threads on the Husky forum. Most, but not all, Huskies dislike the Zags....a lot.

I think the Huskies dislike the Zags at least as much as we dislike them.
Just my honest opinion.

Was talking to a guy on the shuttle bus back from the strip and he said that there certainly alot of us around the strip. My response was that we are like locust who swarm a city. :D

actually the only time I wore any UW gear was on the flight down because we watched the apple cup bball game at the airport bar. Suprisingly I definitely saw multiple UW fans at the GU games, and definitely a bunch of people wearing UW gear with GU spouses. Was definitely really alot of fun down there. My dad and I are most certainly in for next year! We are also making the trip to portland to watch UW play in the first weekend of the tourney! I wish the pac-10 would do something like this but eh it's all about the $$$ they make from sponserships in LA boo!

It was fun playing at the orleans alot of locals play their and they didn't understand why it was so packed and loud! We really brought a huge crowd down there, the wcc better pick up the option for next year!

Just curious: are Gonzaga fans recession proved? With all the news about people losing their jobs, losing their homes, their 401K losing most of its values, how can thousands of Gonzaga fans jammed into Vegas one weekend and spent money like AIG throwing out lavish parties to reward top sales agents? I bet there won't be half as many UW fans going down to LA this week to watch the Pac 10 tourney, even though just like GU, UW won the Pac 10 regular season title. But in UW's case, it's the first time in 53 years. Among my friends from UW, which is quite a large number, no one I know is going to LA this week.

I could give some witty answer about it being a testament to the successes of our graduates, and the applying of the knowledge and insight gained from their degrees towards their finances, but I won't. ;)

I think it more has the do with the one-trick-pony nature of GU Basketball. I know a lot of UW alums who invest quite a bit of money in season tickets for football or at least a couple trips up to Seattle to see the team play a couple times a year. With Gonzaga, you don't have the financial attrition from other sports.

Plus, its the first time in Vegas, so there's a novelty factor.

And there's just a culture of traveling well for games. Easier to justify the cost if you know friends and acquaintances are going to be in attendance as well.

Trust me, we more than paid for our trip by betting on the OVER and the Zags each night.:D

Vegas >>>>>> LA
and it's not even close, if the pac-10 tourney was in vegas I bet almost every game would be sold out, in la, honestly who cares about going there.
