TUCSON, Ariz. -- The NCAA is investigating Arizona's basketball program for alleged recruiting violations, according to a letter sent to university president Robert Shelton.

The Arizona Daily Star reported on its Web site that the allegations stem from initially self-reported violations involving an elite recruiting event at McKale Center known as the Cactus Classic.

Yikes. Tough time to be a Wildcats fan. But, on the upside, violations and turmoil didn't keep the Hoosiers from landing a guy like Tom Creen.

Should not be that big of a deal. Penalty should not involve ban of post season play. It's just lost of recruiting visits or possible loss of scholarship. The later case is more severe, but a new coach should be able to overcome it.

This story actually goes back to when Lute Olson stepped down as Arizona's coach. The story broke about the gross recruiting violations that Lute Olson was involved in... and this story was the straw that broke the camel's back. The very next week... Lute retired unexpectedly, and recruits and players started jumping ship. I'm actually surprised that this has stayed under wraps for this long, and hasn't become a story throughout this season with the troubles at Arizona. I'm guessing the NCAA will spare their prized program in the PAC-10, but most NCAA programs would get slammed for this level of recruiting violations.

I can't wait 'til May to see how bad the NCAA comes down on the Arizona program...
