Mods feel free to move this, I just had to say something.

That stupid ad prevents GUB from opening at all. Anyone else notice this?

It doesn't affect me, but I have alerted the S-R techs about it.

Bugs me too. I've been thinking about doing something like this for the last day or so.

It hinders navigation for me somewhat, but the comcast animations slowed things down more for me.

Can't they just create this for us for free? Jeez.

Yep, prevents the window from opening when this ad is on. I have to rewind and fast forward and hope Pizza Rita is the next ad up for display instead of Fat Guys! :p

Uber doesn't have any problems with the Fat Guys ad. If you put your mouse over the ad, it gets bigger but then just put your mouse outside of the ad and it shrinks to the size of all the other ads.

You using IE or Mozilla? Uber doesn't use IE at all when on GUB because IE doesn't render the page very well.

My problem:

On a main forum page, I'll click on a thread to open it and then move my mouse up to change tabs in my browser. When I run the mouse over the drop down banner ad (fat guys), it cancels my click to open a thread and remains on the same page, forcing me to reclick the thread. It can be avoided by ensuring the mouse doesn't roll over the ad when I attempt to do something else, but that is annoying.

(this is in IE on a work computer. using firefox at home, the ads are blocked)

Yup. The window doesn't open completely and I have to refresh it.

I think that pop down disruption feature is unnecessary and certainly wouldn't lead me to try them out. quite the opposite.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having issues with that ad. Time for those three chubby knuckleheads to go.

Uber will say this about banner ads in general: Uber has maybe clicked on about 5 of them (on purpose) over the past 10 or so years. Uber has never purchased anything after clicking. Never. Ever. However, Uber suspects they are worth the effort for name recognition and familiarity much like how TV ads work.

in order to support this site it wouldn't hurt to click on a few of the ads every now and then...

(but not FatGuys! at least until the ad is changed)

I use Firefox and have never seen or noticed this ad, and certainly have not had a problem with it.

Where is the ad?

Near the top of the page in browsers that aren't using some kind of adblocker.

They think they've identified the problem. Hopefully, it'll not be a problem much longer.

Don't the ads help to support the forum??

Ok, so now I've noticed that, in addition to the problem I noted above, if my mouse rolls over the fat guys ad when a new page is loading, the page won't finish loading. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does I need to refresh the page for it to finish loading. Not cool.

I just notified the techs again.
