Apologies if this has already been related in a previous post. During a time-out at the game on Saturday, a young fan, (maybe 10 years old?) was invited onto the court to attempt a lay-up, a free-throw, and a three-pointer in order to win a free pizza. He succeeded, and was given a nice round of applause. The USF staff had the little guy wearing a yellow USF basketball t-shirt, and as he was being escorted off the floor, he turned toward the crowd (who until that point was still applauding him), pulled up the t-shirt to reveal a Gonzaga jersey underneath, and flashed a "number 1" sign. The applause turned to a collective gasp as he was hustled off the court. The boy is being raised right.

I'm still not sure if the gasp was for the #1 sign or wearing Zags gear...PeninsulaDog, can you clarify what kind of #1 sign it was? :p

They should have known he was a Zag when he hit all three shots. :)

But wasn't one of those shots a free-throw?

That is most definitely a child being raised right. The kid is a Zag... he used the right finger. He wouldn't have pulled a Samhan.

Which was particularly funny, considering that the USF fans were terrible in all of the other shooting challenges. This kid was one of the highlights of the night.

this was great, i was there first hand to see it as well and the kid was facing my wife and i right as he pulled up his usf shirt to show his zags shirt.
the best part was that while he was hitting all his shots i made some comment like "wow, usf should start recruiting this kid right now" and then when he showed the zag shirt it all became clear why he was so awesome!
it was also great because after the gasp, i think the arena got even louder - mostly cheers from zag fans that almost outnumbered dons but with a spattering of boo's of course, the kid was awesome!

so very true.

to add to the story - the kid flashed the GU shirt to the area behind GU's bench, which was filled with GU fans. While other areas of the gym may have gotten quieter, the GU fans in that area, myself included, cheered a lot louder when we saw the shirt.
