With the score as close as it was, you'd think that GU had a poor night statistically.

Not exactly.

Zags shot 61.2% from the field and 64.3% from beyond the arc. Astoundingly good numbers

USF shot only 38.3% from the field. Pretty lousy. They shot 53.8% from beyond the arc, which is very, very good.

USF made 14 of 22 treys.

What kept this game close was USF's treys in transition...particularly treys in transition off turnovers, which happened way too much.

Justin.tv actually had the game. So my wife and I curled up on the couch and watched it in stunning laptop-vision with a couple glasses of wine. Perfect valentine's day, imo.

Turnovers, especially in the first half was a big factor in why the game was a close as it was.

They actually shot 63.6% for 3pt, 40.4% overall. The key difference was that GU had nearly twice as many turnovers as USF (16 compared to 9). That is a lot of extra shots and, as you mention Angelo, if many of those threes were coming in transition, that is where the difference lies and why USF was in the game. They did have 4 more pts off of free throws than GU, too.

Yeah, I was lucky enough to have someone sell me tickets (thanks malmer!), and for me the two biggest factors were our turnovers and their 3-point shooting. Lowhorn was an absolute stud last-night.

another interesting stat...

4 games in a row we've had an opponent hit a bank shot 3-pointer. wtf?
