Holy Schnikies, I know we're a 2nd half team, but I didn't see THAT coming!!! What a great show. Gotta give major props to Few....

I am SO torn for this GUnit...Josh Heytvelt...22 points! 3-6 from downtown?!?!

Or Pargo...11 points, 10 assists...and showed INCREDIBLE leadership.

Or shoot...Austin Daye, 14 points, 5 boards, don't know how many blocks.

I'll vote later...

12-10-2008, 07:51 PM
Josh. He made sure Aaron knew that he had a good game against us last year mainly because he wasn't there.

12-10-2008, 07:52 PM

12-10-2008, 07:52 PM
Pargo, NO question. 5-7 on FG and a double double. Perfect efficiency.

wins over Josh because josh was "only" 50% from the field. :D

12-10-2008, 07:53 PM
JH all the way---good job young man

12-10-2008, 07:53 PM
Josh has the numbers - as in points - but Jeremy was the General out there today and he directed this ass whooping like Schwarzkopf.

That was as a prolific 2nd half as I have ever seen. We were in a little trouble in the 1st half, but thanks to Pargo we weren't ever really in trouble.

12-10-2008, 07:53 PM

12-10-2008, 07:53 PM
Now that was sweet.

The great demoralizer.

12-10-2008, 07:55 PM
Pargo. The double-double and his alley oops were very impressive. He was a general out there, and he did some sweet stuff on defense too. Rochestie does not match up with Pargo at all.

12-10-2008, 07:55 PM
Josh Heytvelt...knew he had a good shot, but 3 for 7 from behind the arc!

Pargo also had a very good game.

12-10-2008, 07:56 PM
I'll give the whole team the nod, especially the defense at the beginning at the second half, it totally took the Cougs out of their game.

12-10-2008, 07:57 PM
Josh shut the zzu crew up!

Josh for sure.

12-10-2008, 07:57 PM
Pargo is really running this team well this year but I'll go with Josh great game guys!

12-10-2008, 07:58 PM
yes we can. i vote pargo.

12-10-2008, 07:59 PM
Pargo. 10 dimes. He was the reason we went into half with a lead and came out on a MISSION in the 2nd half.

Josh honorable mention but Pargo never gets enough votes for how silky smooth he runs this team.

12-10-2008, 08:00 PM

12-10-2008, 08:00 PM
Pargo...not for his stat line tonight...for his leadership when the game was tight...

12-10-2008, 08:01 PM
Hmmmm.... Josh.... Jeremy... Josh... Jeremy....

Dang this is a tough one. I'll go Mr. Pargo... love the double double... but Josh is a whisker behind him.

12-10-2008, 08:01 PM
Pargo turned the game around in the first four minutes of the second half -- five points, two assists during that little 9-0 jag that put the game away. Also excellent defense on Rochestie. Pargo gets my vote.

12-10-2008, 08:01 PM
Heytvelt turned up the heat in the 2nd half and ignited this team!

12-10-2008, 08:03 PM
First Star: The Catalyst Pargo

12-10-2008, 08:05 PM
A close one.

Jeremy got them running at the start of the second half, and that was the game.

But I have to vote for Josh for responding to the WSU "Mushroom" cheer by having his best game of the year.

12-10-2008, 08:05 PM
pargo pargo pargo pargo pargo! i loved josh in this one...but pargo kept us in it in the first half and sparked the offense in the second...no question for me but loved seeing josh having another great night!

12-10-2008, 08:08 PM
Pargo. . .double / double and another solid performance at the PG position .

12-10-2008, 08:08 PM
Heytvelt turned up the heat in the 2nd half and ignited this team!

what?? i already had my 666 post on 11/30...what gives?

12-10-2008, 08:09 PM
When Jeremy started to attack the basket, the cougs defense fell apart.

I think for overplaying defenses, Jeremy is major trouble with so many ZAG THREATS.

The discipline to get everyone going vs. scoring 20 himself gets my vote.

12-10-2008, 08:10 PM
1 - Pargo
2 - (tie) Heytvelt and TEAM DEFENSE (32.7% FG's for WSU)

12-10-2008, 08:10 PM

Great game, plus his maturity is really showing. I liked how he just palmed the ball and gently handed it to an official after a foul call. No drama.

12-10-2008, 08:10 PM

Master: JOSH:D

12-10-2008, 08:11 PM
JP set up JH for everything he did on offense.

I really thought they found a way to get it done.

Split the GUNIT between JH and JP.

Props to Few for some great coaching.

12-10-2008, 08:15 PM
Heyfelt--he is Buddha on the court

12-10-2008, 08:17 PM
Concensus is: Jeremy or Josh. Can't go wrong picking either of them, both were on a mission tonight. Can't help but think what the idiot coug fan who said we're not the best in the state is doing right now.

My vote: Pargo. He ran the show.

12-10-2008, 08:19 PM
No Question One of those rare co-Gunits:

anything less would be a travesty.

12-10-2008, 08:19 PM
Food for thought:

If ESPN's stats are correct, Pargo's up to 7.6 assists a game and 5.3A/TO (which is tops in the nation or damn close to it). Not only that, his assist numbers this season are now palindromic...10/8/7/3/7/8/10. Is Pargo messing with our minds? Is he purposely getting a certain number of assists each game?

12-10-2008, 08:21 PM
1. Pargo
2. Josh
3. Team defense

12-10-2008, 08:22 PM
lol in the post game conference he didn't know his numbers (he was asking huddybuddy XD)
Maybe he want's to "act" out of the know.

12-10-2008, 08:22 PM
Going with Josh for this one. Great effort by lot's of Zags though.

12-10-2008, 08:28 PM

There is only one thing Pargo guarantees: Pain.

12-10-2008, 08:31 PM
My choice starts with a J and ends with a P/H.
Jeremy/Josh for G-unit of the game!!!

12-10-2008, 08:32 PM
Pargo, nuff said

12-10-2008, 08:33 PM
Based on the efficiency statistic, the GUnit of the game was Pargo.

Pargo 24.5
Heytvelt 17.5
Bouldin 15
Daye 15
Gray 9
Downs 9
Goodson 5
Sorenson 0
Brown -1

Zag Total: 94
Coug Total: 44

12-10-2008, 08:34 PM
Going against the grain, I am going with Gray. Those two 3-pointers after the half were clutch. Got the ball rolling, and it never stopped.

12-10-2008, 08:34 PM
While Josh and Pargo are the men of the hour. I gotta say that Austin Daye playing against tough D with only 2 fouls and some bold moves and aged a year since last game.. That said, I saw so many great things from every member of the team out of the floor tonight....

I am going to give Mark Few the GU unit of the game for believing in Joshua Heyfelt, when I know he did not want to at points in time and for his excellent thinking in getting this team together to practice cougar style. Mark Few... GU Unitof the game. Joshua and Pargo, great game. Refs, you keep Micah out of it. Matt, your the man too!. Steven, oh yeah! I like what Sacre is bringing to. When we face UNC, you will be needed.

12-10-2008, 08:35 PM
Great seats... great show... best thing about watching the game in person is that you see SO much more. Pargo 10 assists against this type of D is incredible. The way he sets up the offense is great...but the way he sets up the Defense is unbelievable. Cant see that stuff on TV. Pargo gets my vote for the rest of the year (sarcasm...kinda).

12-10-2008, 08:37 PM

What was Josh without Pargo....

What was Pargo without Josh....

They found a way to get it done.....

Co GUNITs!!!

Great effort under tough circumstances all the way around.

This is a huge win for us, things didnt go as planned at first, and we figured it out.

12-10-2008, 08:42 PM
Jeremy had 11pts, 10 assists and 1 TURNOVER against a team that prides itself on defense!!!!! You can't ask for more out of a point guard. He also had a bunch of steals.

12-10-2008, 09:01 PM

Whew. At the beginning of the 2nd half, when he was back on the court after that silly foul trouble thing, he just put his foot on the Coug's jugular and kept on pushing. Man. :explode:

If you watch the first 5 or so possessions on either side of the ball at the beginning of the 2nd half, you can see the maestro at work. He just stood up and took that game by the throat. Whew. GUnit to Pargo, no question in my mind at all.

12-10-2008, 09:01 PM
I will say right now we don't win this game without Pargo's leadership.

Jeremy Pargo #2. My GUnit of the game.

12-10-2008, 09:18 PM
Hard choice between Pargo and Josh. Both had a great game!
After really thinking it through, I will go with Pargo. Wish it could be split between the two of them.

Club Prez
12-10-2008, 09:31 PM
Josh got most his points after we had a nice lead. Jeremy got his points and assists in taking us to that lead.

12-10-2008, 09:37 PM
Pargo by a whisker over Josh.

12-10-2008, 09:42 PM
with mega props to Josh

These two are really on their game right now and have a terrific "supporting cast"

12-10-2008, 09:48 PM
Pargo. Charging buffalo five star floor general.

12-10-2008, 09:53 PM
Josh. Pargo was great, however.

12-10-2008, 09:58 PM

And Josh as runner up if for some reason Jeremy cannot fulfill his unit duties.

12-10-2008, 10:03 PM
Pargo. Played cool and ran the show. My favorite player right now, which is saying a lot considering all the amazing dunks Josh is getting.

I also loved the brilliant press Few put in place the second half. I vote for this as the GUnit tactic of the game.

12-10-2008, 10:19 PM
Pargo... he did a great job leading the way.

12-10-2008, 10:33 PM
Josh...Josh was pretty incredible tonight. I think he had 18 second half points. He just is so confident right now. I was really anxious to see the match up between Josh and Baynes. Josh 22, Baynes 10, and Josh Dominated him. Not in muscle, but in athleticism. Beast vs athlete who is also big. I take the athlete, Like Josh every time. I think the key to the game was Josh dominating. Yes, Pargo was making the assists but josh was running the floor and slammin 'em home. I love to see Josh's hustle up the court.

Pargo had a great game and he did ignite the Zags the second half. He is an incredible FIRE STARTER. He did light the fire tonight, but Josh fanned the flame and turned a small fire into a bonfire. If you like total domination, I go with Josh because he was one guy who never let up on the Cougs. He was the one that I felt wanted to dig the dagger in them very deep. He wanted to make a statement, and he did. GREAT GAME JOSH AND JEREMY.

The year of Redemption.....This game washed away the memories of two consecutive losses, and horrible games by the Zags.

Gunit Josh

12-10-2008, 10:46 PM

12-10-2008, 11:18 PM
josh, pargo. pargo, josh. pargo, josh, pargo, dammit! :D josh had the pts, but pargo ran such an efficient game. when josh was out we still scored, without pargo we were stuck at 13 forever. so ill say pargo 1a josh 1b.

12-10-2008, 11:28 PM
I cannot say how impressed I have been with Pargo this year.

He gets my vote. He played another great, great game.

12-10-2008, 11:39 PM
I'm going with Pargo. He deserves a Gunit already!!!

12-11-2008, 12:54 AM
I have to go with Few and the whole coaching staff....bringing out the press to start the 2nd half worked so well....but as far as players....Pargo, JH, and then Daye for staying with it

12-11-2008, 03:26 AM
The fact that there's such a spirited debate says it all - this is a balanced, deep team with great coaching. There's always someone ready to pick up the slack when adversity hits. I imagine Romar's puppies are relieved UW tapped-out of this series to avoid further embarrassment.

So it's 8 of the last 10 against WSU and 8 of the last 9 against the Fuskies :D

12-11-2008, 03:48 AM

12-11-2008, 04:34 AM
Pargo Show. No doubt. Josh was great at helping pull the zags away, but that second half doesn't happen if the zags aren't feeling semi confident after the first half. Pargo kept us in the game in the first half and showed the kind of efficiency and timely shot selection that leads to deep March runs. Three years ago I would cringe when he tore into the lane because 50% or more of the time he was out of control, he is now the most composed and intelligent player on the court making every one better. We have one of the best floor generals in the country.

12-11-2008, 04:37 AM

wow, that was fun

12-11-2008, 05:12 AM
Josh & Jeremy, impressive Zags, what a victory. Mini-me blahla pointed out to me he missed the actual score by only 5 points while I was off by 10. Another great defensive effort. Wow!

Go!! Zags!!!

12-11-2008, 05:19 AM

12-11-2008, 05:26 AM
I'm pretty torn between Pargo and Heytvelt, considering Pargo was consistent throughout the whole game, and Heytvelt killed the second half. But I'm going to have to give it to....

As much as I would like to give it to Pargo, considering he had another double double, Heytvelt came through when we needed him most. He put most of our second half points, as well as had three key steals.

G-Unit of the game goes to Heytvelt. Great game overall.

12-11-2008, 05:41 AM
Pargo has skills.
Chicks like guys with skills.

However, comma, I was duely impressed with Josh's attitude last night. He was calm, collected, and let his game do the talking. Some say he never left, but I'll argue that heeee's baaAAAaack!!

12-11-2008, 05:44 AM
What a great team effort! Everyone contributed big time, both on O and D - just what I've been waiting for. Have to say Pargo for his leadership. JH was great. How about Matty - three I.V.s before the game? Looks like maybe we've learned to put the hammer down. Super team effort, super coaching. Wow!

12-11-2008, 05:47 AM

12-11-2008, 05:56 AM
Josh was exceptional, but Pargo leads this team -- double double.
Jeremy's steal early in the second half, tip-toeing the sideline kept the momentum of the run that roasted the cougs.

12-11-2008, 06:16 AM
Josh Heytvelt controlled this game for us

12-11-2008, 06:22 AM
Close call between Pargo and Josh - very close, but I will go with Pargo.

12-11-2008, 06:25 AM
A new level of leadership was established last night. The Captain of our ship was to powerful for college basketball. When I went to my Thesaurus and typed in “Leader” a picture of General Pargo appeared. What a complete game for GU.

12-11-2008, 06:25 AM
JH...great game.

12-11-2008, 06:44 AM

12-11-2008, 07:03 AM
Josh - he is a new man
every game like this adds hundreds of thousands to his potential NBA credit
only thing is 3 rebounds? but Baines had only 2 rebounds?
Pargo a close second

Ira, Downs, and Austin had such ups and downs

Angelo Roncalli
12-11-2008, 07:17 AM
Jeremy Pargo. In 70 seconds he took control the game and put it out of reach. A hippy-hop dance through the lane for a layin. A lob to Josh for an emphatic dunk that stunned the crowd and shut them up. A dagger three, then a steal on the sideline and a lob to Daye for another transition dunk. The Cougars were broken. The look in Tony Bennett's told the story: the game was over.

12-11-2008, 07:48 AM
Ten assists and one turnover against one of the best defensive teams in the country? That's spectacular. Pargo for gunit.

12-11-2008, 09:07 AM
PARGO FOR GU UNIT!!! Runs this team like a pro. Good game for Josh too though

12-11-2008, 09:10 AM
Josh. His face is the one that pops up in my mind when I think of this game.

12-11-2008, 09:19 AM
Josh. He was instrumental in that run early in the second half. Although JP is an amazingly close second.

12-11-2008, 10:35 AM
Woohoo, I know you'll want to check the math on this, and they'll be more votes coming (including yours), but I wanted to see a running total with this many votes already.

Josh and Jeremy had 5 votes as Co-GUnits, so I added 2.5 votes to their totals.

Jeremy: 47.5
Josh: 26.5
Few/Coaching staff: 3
Whole Team: 2
Gray: 1

12-11-2008, 11:27 AM
Gosh it's only noon & we have 4 pages of votes already...people are active this game!

Josh was AWESOME last night - but PARGO absolutely controlled the game. When he was on the floor, GU could do no wrong! I mean really... 10 assists!

I'm votin' for Jeremy P-Go!

zag buddy
12-11-2008, 01:14 PM
Josh and Jeremy. but neither could have done it without the supporting cast. That's the beauty of the team, anyone of the players can be the mvp of the game but not without the others. They are all entertwined--they are a TEAM

12-11-2008, 02:01 PM
Gotta be JP.....I think he snuck a knife out with him in the 2nd.....he killed them in the first 2 mins and showed how its done.

12-11-2008, 02:24 PM

Without his steady hand in the first half, especially while JH was on the bench, we would have seen a different game. And every good thing that happened in the second half seemed to be inititated by him. One of the best games I've ever seen from a GU point gaurd.

12-11-2008, 02:49 PM

12-11-2008, 02:59 PM

12-11-2008, 03:33 PM
Pargo- anytime he gives us 10 dimes and 1 turnover we will win. Nice game Heytvelt, but I still would like to see him play on the interior, we have plenty of three-point shooters. Not taking anything away from him though, nice shooting man.

12-11-2008, 03:43 PM
Pargo ran it very efficiently....Josh also had a great game. I'll go with Pargo.

Josh is doing a number at the 3 line. Future teams have one heck of a choice...send out their big man to D-up Josh and expose their backside. The other choice is hope he doesn't make it.....not much of a choice.

Between Gray's 3's.....Micah's weapons....Bouldin's probing of the defense....the "flying tank"....Jeremy's threat to take it to the hole(a threat few can stop if confronted)...Daye's size and ability to put it on the floor....this team is a scary opponent. I think the key to our offense was Pargo's ability to establish ALL of our offense as a credible weapon....It sure is nice to have some "GO TO GUYS". The DEFENSE ain't too shabby either.....keep it up ZAGS!

12-11-2008, 05:34 PM
For 15 minutes last night, Josh was the best player in the country...or at least among them. I couldn't be happier for him...it has been a long and winding road.

That being said, last night the difference maker was Pargo. He was a gladiator...and I believe he will be all year.

Both of these guys have matured this past year. Both are prime time players and are a dynamic duo for those of us that are fortunate enough to follow this team.

Pargo, Josh, Austin, Matty, Micah, Steven, Meech, Ira, Rob...this could be the year...an amazing team...led by our general...the G-unit of the WSU game.......Jeremy Pargo.

12-11-2008, 05:45 PM
I don't think the Zags do it without Pargo. He gets the vote, even though Josh did so well and is such a close second.

12-11-2008, 09:29 PM
Pargo. Feel free to tally away...

12-12-2008, 07:01 AM
Pargo. Feel free to tally away...

Bout stinkin time Uber....dang. (the word 'dang' is said using my best Napolean Dynamite impression).

Edited to add: My vote is for PARGO.

Here's why...he had 11 points, and 10 assists. If ALL of his assists were only for 2 pointers, that means he is responsible for 31 points. And I know he had an even bigger impact than that. But Josh Heytvelt would be a mighty fine answer too!
