View Full Version : GUnit of the game - Indiana

I think Woo Hoo is at the game, so I'll start the thread in his absence.

My vote, without even looking at the sheet, Josh Heytvelt.

Just a great all around game, making big plays on offense and defense.

Honorable mention to Pargo for being a good floor general.

12-06-2008, 11:45 AM
The General... PARGO!!!!!!

12-06-2008, 11:47 AM
I'll go Matt Bouldin 6/9 shooting lots of steals good all around game.

12-06-2008, 11:47 AM
Taking Josh on this one. 5/6 on free throws!

12-06-2008, 11:55 AM
No question for me - Josh: rock solid, didn't get excited or upset or taken out of his game, just did what he does, was a great defender in the paint and had a solid all-around game. I just wish he'd get more rebounds. 5 just aint gonna cut it.

12-06-2008, 11:56 AM
This is the player that we've always hoped Josh to be.

12-06-2008, 11:59 AM
I like rebounds ... I'll take Micah

It was Josh. No one else was even close.

12-06-2008, 11:59 AM
Matt. Offense and defense.

Josh and Jeremy were great too. It is great that different fans have different players.

12-06-2008, 12:00 PM
Pargo.... 8 Assists, 13 points

12-06-2008, 12:01 PM
No doubt it was Josh.

Best player on the floor. Solid all around game, never rattled always seemed cool and confident.

Have to go with Josh, with Pargo and Bouldin 2nd and 3rd.

12-06-2008, 12:21 PM
Downs. His effort more than his numbers were a big blow to Indiana's dreams.

12-06-2008, 12:22 PM
Josh. Very good foul shooting today. Nice to see him turning it around. I loved his defense. To see a 7' 0" guy taking all those charges. That's impressive. Refs COULD HAVE called more charges on IU really. Very solid game by Josh. He was very workman like, and he's turning into a blue collar worker...

Pargo was solid as well. I really like he and Josh together and how they really settle the team down. Micah as well. I thought Micah's game was very solid. Good passing by him, and he hit a very big 3 in second half. Missed a couple chippy's though.

12-06-2008, 12:28 PM

I liked Micah too, but Josh impresses me more every game. I know that the word is overused, but his maturity has made a huge difference.

I did see Will in the game for a minute, though, notwithstanding the DNP in the box score ...

CBS gave the MVP of the game to Josh, BTW.

12-06-2008, 12:32 PM
Pargo. He played better in the second half and it showed by our ability to get a little cushion. He is the guy that runs this team, and it is this kind of ugly game where he proved it.

Mica 9 rebounds

12-06-2008, 12:40 PM
Josh. period.....maybe 1/2 a pt for Sacre

12-06-2008, 12:44 PM
Matty. I thought he had 4 stls. in the first half at least that's what I thought I heard one of those goofballs say. Good to see Bouldin playing the D more pronounced and in their face.

12-06-2008, 12:45 PM

12-06-2008, 01:04 PM
Bouldin. Nice game by Josh and JP, too. Experience counts in a weird game like this.

12-06-2008, 01:05 PM
I am finding trouble with this whole G-Unit thing-picking just one. We have six "PTP-ers" as Dickie V calls them, and guys like Sacre, Ira, and Meech can be difference makers in their own right. To pick only one is wrong.

I'm gonna hafta start going with the Hockey Night in Canada Three Stars approach from here on out. (You can just count the top one for the running totals' sake)

1. Sacre
2. Heytvelt
3. Bouldin

12-06-2008, 01:43 PM
Closest one by far based on the efficiency statistic, but Pargo by a hair.

Pargo 17.5
Heytvelt 17
Bouldin 17
Sacre 14
Downs 10.5
Gray 8.5
Brown 2
Daye 2
Goodson 1
Sorenson 0
Foster 0

Total efficiency for the team vs. Indiana: 89.5 (least efficient game thus far)

Efficiency vs. Tennessee: 96.5
vs. Maryland: 100.5
vs. Ok State: 96
vs. Idaho: 103
vs. MSU Billings: 117

Matt. He added some needed points early with some backdoors and even post ups.

JH - #1 Nice game Josh, all around good.
MB - #2 Matt, consistent, steals, good defense
JP - #3 Pargo, general, nice dunk at the end!

12-06-2008, 02:34 PM
His Heytveltness

12-06-2008, 03:07 PM
Matty. I thought he had 4 stls. in the first half at least that's what I thought I heard one of those goofballs say. Good to see Bouldin playing the D more pronounced and in their face.

The ESPN Box Score http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=283410084 shows Matt w/ 4 Steals. . .

In any event my vote is for Josh. Good solid game. He was interviewed on Fox Sports radio ( by knuckleheads who pronounced it "Gun ZAH Guh" ) about 20 or 30 minutes after the game. Nice to hear an athlete use complete sentences in his answers, even if some of the questions were lame.

As a team, they had 14 steals and 7 blocks. I'd take that every game if we could get it.

Winning an ugly one is good prep for the WCC season; a lot of the league games tend to be that way. . .

Big Josh! Solid play all around.

Pargo was GREAT the second half!

12-06-2008, 04:51 PM

With Matt a close second and Pargo right behind. Sacre gets a Shout-Out.

Josh - I don't think there should be any doubts that he's aiming for a great Senior year.,

12-06-2008, 05:46 PM
Pargo, great job leading the team.

12-06-2008, 05:57 PM
As expected, Josh.

12-06-2008, 06:18 PM
Joh, did not see the game, just based on stats, especially 5/6 free throws. Pargo honorable mention.

12-06-2008, 06:22 PM
Josh. I still have a hard time understanding why we don't dump it down low to him more often...when he has an inferior defender sealed, or when he slips off a high screen and he has no defender near him. Oh well, as long as the W's keep coming, all is well in Zagville!!!

12-06-2008, 06:37 PM
Pargo for GUnit - nice game. Can't really argue with anyone else's choice either.

(But Jeremy still is my running POY pick...in almost every game, if he isn't GUnit, he's #2)

12-07-2008, 08:42 AM
Boy this was a close one for me - but I'll go with Josh by a hair...
Jeremy & Matt were right there behind him though.....

12-07-2008, 08:58 AM
Want to go with Matt, but Josh was the man. Honorable mention: Pargo.

Keep it up Jeremy, see you in the NBA next year!

12-07-2008, 11:59 AM
Team G-Unit for winning ugly but by 16 pts. Two 3's a 2 and 3 free throws and this is a 27 point victory. The "D" was awesome.

Go!! Zags!!!
