From the Chicago Tribune (http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/chi-06-illinois-basketball-united-center,0,1888392.story), talking about the increased competition to get top teams to play in Chicago, with the Pac-10/Big 12 series cutting into available BCS teams:
It should be a different story next year when Gonzaga, which has played in the last 10 NCAA tournaments and is ranked No. 5 this week, comes to the United Center. Weber said it will be the first game of a four-game series, followed by games in Seattle, Champaign, and Gonzaga's Spokane, Wash., home court.

"It should be a nice game for Chicago and a nice series for us," Weber said.I don't know if I'd heard before that Illinois would be playing in the MAC as part of this series.

 Please say it's true that the Illni are playing in the MAC... it's four years away, but it's the type of game I would like to see more of in the MAC

I don't know ... I just assumed that when they say "home court," they mean the MAC. Who knows? Maybe someone not precise with details, not knowing the difference between the Arena and K2?

It is my understanding that the Spokane game will be played in K2.

It's too bad this series couldn't have started while Pargo was still part of the team.

I second that.

I remember when this series was in the talking stages, there was an article in the Spokesman and one of the conditions was that each team would get a home game on campus

Zags have a home game lined up with Oklahoma next year as well. Blake Griffen will be NBA. I think we could also see the St. Joe's series start up again, too. Illinois is a great series to have. The Big Ten provides good RPI help and the Illini are always a test for the Zags.

The 2009 game could be December 5th per one line from today's State Journal-Register of Springfield (http://www.sj-r.com/sports/x776474615/Illinois-routs-Georgia-76-42).

in the "notes" listing

. . . . Illinois is expected to play Gonzaga at the United Center on Dec. 5, 2009. Illinois is waiting for the signed contract to return from Gonzaga. ..

For those Illini fans that think GU is "all hype" because they didn't beat Indiana by 30........we got something waiting for ya.

It is called a beatdown in K2.
