WOOHOO! It's so great to have the zags back. There were a few negatives tonight, which can be expected, but also alot of positives!!!

Who is your GUnit tonight? I'll let a few people post there's first.

Without any numbers in front of me it felt like Josh.

He was bouncy and strong inside.

11-15-2008, 05:02 PM
All the newborns of the Board's members, who are getting their first glimpse of how to behave when they get older.

11-15-2008, 05:03 PM

11-15-2008, 05:04 PM
Josh, then Daye, then Meech/Pargo.

I was disappointed with Steven and Micah's play. Both played good on D, but the other side was lacking.

11-15-2008, 05:04 PM
Very tough actually but I'm going to go with Josh edging out Daye.

11-15-2008, 05:06 PM
SORENSON.....his smile says everything :D

11-15-2008, 05:08 PM

Tip o' the hat to Mr. Bouldin.

Nice to see what all the hype was about re: Goodson. He's got afterburners.

11-15-2008, 05:16 PM
Didn't get to see the game, so going off game tracker a stats - Josh

Going 4 for 4 from the FT line is awesome. He and Daye were 100%. Get the ball to them!

However, Zags and Jackets each had 16 rebounds in the second half.

Micah Downs

11-15-2008, 05:22 PM
Pargo is da man! Josh is gonna bring us into the final four

11-15-2008, 05:22 PM
No question...Jeremy Pargo, 10 assist and great leadership..what more could you ask for?

11-15-2008, 05:25 PM
Welcome back Josh!

11-15-2008, 05:25 PM
I will go with Pargo. Heytvelt and Daye played well also, loved the blocks and boards to go with the points.

11-15-2008, 05:25 PM
we absolutely need Josh to step it up and continue his presence in the middle. it is such an anomaly to see a solid center in these days of the ever-present guard influx of college basketball. if he can continue to use the one handed hook and the back to the basket offensive mindedness, we will be solid. Pargo will obvious be a frontrunner for POY, but we need to push it inside and clean up the ball handling and limit the trey balls. PUSH IT inside

11-15-2008, 05:26 PM
Pargo. 10 assits 0 TOs and 7 points. Any question that he is trying to take it up a notch as a PG instead of taking it himself when he pretty clearly could have? The team will be better for it.

11-15-2008, 05:26 PM
Based on the overall statistics based on formula below...it's Mr. Heytvelt.

Overall = (Pts+Rebs+Assists+Steals+Blocks)-(((FG Attempts - (1*2Pt FG Made)-(1.5*3Pt FG Made))+(FT Attempts - FT Makes)+(Turnovers))

Heytvelt 20.5
Daye 20
Pargo 18.5
Bouldin 13
Gray 10.5
Brown 10
Sorenson 8
Downs 7.5
Goodson 7
Foster 1
P-Maag 1

11-15-2008, 05:28 PM
I can see a repeat come March and I am licking our odds.

11-15-2008, 05:28 PM
azzagfan, where do you come up with this complex formula

11-15-2008, 05:31 PM

Good to see him back

11-15-2008, 05:31 PM
Few -- apparently he didn't strangle anyone at halftime. Otherwise, I'll go with Josh

11-15-2008, 05:36 PM
azzagfan, where do you come up with this complex formula

It's a slight variation of a statistic used in the Euroleague. The only main difference is that the formula I'm using rewards players for 3 pt makes slightly more than 2 pt makes (that makes sense to me as they're worth one additional point).

11-15-2008, 05:37 PM
15 pts, 12 boards, 4 blocks 25minutes!!!!

That is a quality line.

11-15-2008, 05:40 PM
Few -- apparently he didn't strangle anyone at halftime. Otherwise, I'll go with Josh

I would of liked to be in that locker room as an observer only.:lmao:

11-15-2008, 05:51 PM
Pargo. He was a great leader and his unselfishness is really good to see. And I'm not just talking about the 10 assists. He is a floor leader and knows who to give the ball to in what situations. It doesn't show up in the box score, but Pargo is the undisputed leader of this team.

11-15-2008, 05:55 PM
Pargo and Meech already play so fluidly together its hard to differentiate them out there. If they were one singular entity they'd have the GUNIT in a runaway. Loved the fast break back-and-back between them.

11-15-2008, 06:05 PM

2nd Bouldin..They boxed and 1 on him

11-15-2008, 06:07 PM
Sorenson, for hitting 2 3's to get me free Wendys:)

Actually ,I would say Daye good numbers and good hustle.Didn't seem like he is 100%,should be even better when he does get to that point.

11-15-2008, 06:08 PM
If I have to give it to someone then I'm going with Josh, but Pargo is a very close second based on his leadership in the second half. But Josh played great around the basket and did the things we need to have him do this year in order to be successful.

1. Daye
2. Pargo
3. JH

11-15-2008, 07:01 PM
Great to see the big guy back at 100% ! Bodes well for the season.

I'm really impressed by Meech. Doesn't play like a freshman.

11-15-2008, 07:24 PM

11-15-2008, 07:37 PM
1. Voltron's head
2. Voltron's hand
3. Voltron's feet

11-15-2008, 07:40 PM
Bouldin - under control, good decisions, very steady. Then Josh, then Pargo, then Daye. Very impressed with Meech. Way to go Sorenson!

11-15-2008, 09:11 PM
Josh. The first of many.

11-15-2008, 09:14 PM
I initially was going to go with daye, but I like the way josh controlled the paint on defense. I would have liked to see the team work the ball inside to him more, but it is good to see him playing healthy

11-15-2008, 09:58 PM
It was nice to see Jeremy in the "assist first" mentality. He played VERY unselfish and you could clearly see him pass up drive opportunities to get the ball to his teammates. The ball just didn't drop despite good looks.

Good to see Josh being aggressive...and I though Bouldin looked a bit quicker....he had a few takeaways. Austin ended up with some nice numbers and should improve as he gets caught up. Ira,Downs, Demetri, all showed nice hustle. I give some credit to MSUB for their hustle.

With the exception of the last 5 minutes of the first half and a bit off on our shot...it was a good start to the season. On to Idaho!

I haven't really participated in these because it forces me to judge but I will this year.. on our way till...well, I'll reveal that in April.

Tonight it's Austin, his work on the boards reminds me of Rub and Kdaleb, relentless, unforgiving, and omnipresent.

Very honorable mention goes to a second place Josh and a mature Jeremy.

11-16-2008, 07:27 AM
Gotta go for Austin's double double - we need those boards. Josh as a very close second though!

11-16-2008, 08:46 AM
Pargo...10 assists 0 turnovers. Enough said.

11-16-2008, 09:14 AM
I got to go with Austin as well. Tough to beat a double-double. I didn't like his foul problems....he needs to play smarter. This is a problem for him too. Close second is Josh. 8 boards and imo 4 blocked shots. Meech a close 3rd for his defense on their very good shooter in the 2nd half, held him to 5 pts.

11-16-2008, 09:15 AM
Sorenson!!!!!! His smile says it all! I loved the second 3 that bounced straight up and out and came back down and IN!!!!!!! That was priceless!

11-16-2008, 09:19 AM
Josh gets my vote

11-16-2008, 09:38 AM
Career high? Are you kidding me folks? This is a great opportunity to KUDO (I just made a verb out of that) a man who means so much to this team and has for years. Sorenson Smile :D Time

11-16-2008, 09:47 AM
Josh. Steady does it.

Well done, Andrew and Austin!

11-16-2008, 09:54 AM

I'm going with the rebounding leader because this and turnovers is what is going to win games when we only shoot 40% in a half.

11-16-2008, 10:30 AM
Mr. Josh Heytvelt.

11-16-2008, 11:42 AM
Josh for Outstanding Play and for self-control with two VERY BAD foul calls...over the back...right 6'11" taking the ball from a 6"1" guy!

john montana
11-16-2008, 11:48 AM
I'll go with Pargo..he played a very controlled game (except for his two ugly fade away jumpers from the free throw line).

11-16-2008, 11:48 AM
I am going with JOSH.

200 Posts!!!!!!!

11-16-2008, 11:53 AM
Austin Daye, rebounds and blocks, love it!

11-16-2008, 01:05 PM
I'm goin with Josh Heytvelt! He was a FORCE in the paint last night. I'm so pumped to have him "back"!

And I LOVE how tough it is to pick the GUnit! You could go with 3 or 4 guys and can't go wrong! TEAM play.

***I'll tally these tomorrow (monday).

11-16-2008, 01:08 PM

If he will keep crashing the boards, and play the 5 that he can do well (esp now that he is big enough) until he can be the 4 he wants later (maybe in the pros), the Zags will be UNSTOPPABLE

It looks like in scrimmage game and this game and wayne st game he is willing to do this job that may be distasteful to him in some respects.

11-16-2008, 01:21 PM
Daye. He wasn't at 100% and clearly has much to work on, but holy guacamole! Aggressive, focused, more mature. Like what we're seeing there.

Josh and Pargo are right there, too.

Josh is something new. He's got all those Jedi tricks we know about, but now he's intensely focused, even tempered and deliberate. Everything is there for him this year and he's taking advantage.

As for Pargo... Oh. My. Goodness. Feeding the machine where it needs it, how and when it needs it, and if necessary delivering the mail in person with speed, accuracy and panache. The stuff that Pargo can do in the paint astonishes me.

11-17-2008, 06:33 AM
Daye...I really like his agressiveness. This is going to be a fun year!

11-17-2008, 07:12 AM
Daye and Josh deserve the nod for stats, but I'm giving my vote to Meech.

11-17-2008, 07:21 AM

11-17-2008, 07:31 AM
JH by a nose over Daye. Focused effort and solid, steady play; just what we need out of the big guy!

11-17-2008, 08:10 AM

11-17-2008, 09:02 AM
Pargo's 10 assists/0 turnovers barely edges Daye's double-double.
