A lot of optimism about this girl committing soon--

Vicky Tagalicod is the second player from Hawaii to ever play on a club team based on the mainland. Shawna-Lei Kuehu, her teammate on the Cal Storm, was the first, a a year ago. She has been a great pickup for the Storm, taking charge at the point during Nike Nationals.

Command on the floor is Tagalicod's strength. She is strong on the dribble and communicates with her teammates. Her moves are very economical and she uses mostly change of direction to shake defenders. She uses her strength to muscle by defenders, rather than shake them, off the dribble.

Tagalicod is a very good penetrator. She takes the shortest route to the basket. Her strong body serves her well on finishes, as she takes contact well. She can make little interior dump passes in traffic, but extending her vision on penetrations is a next step in her evolution as a point guard. She is, after all, playing against this level of competition for the first time. Her passes are technically sound, with plenty zip and accuracy.

Her jumper is soft, with little rotation, and I'd say Tagalicod is more of a scorer than shooter at this point. She is better at mid-range, than three-point. But she has the leg strength to develop more range.

Tagalicod is a sound defender who shows signs of understanding help concepts and containment. She has the lift to challenge shots and that, plus her strength, should make her an effective rebounder from the point.

Great news and what a player! I hope she decides to come to Gonzaga...the backcourt is certainly shaping up for the future.

She's visited UW and other Pac-10 schools, she'll visit UNLV this weekend, and after that she'll decide. Word is, the Zags are doing very well. :)

The good Father Spitzer is a Punnahou graduate. Best he recruit her, too.
