I am killing time until the selection show this afternoon. Excluding Gonzaga players, who are some of your favorite players from mid major teams from past NCAA Tournaments, guys who put their teams and themselves on the college basketball map and in your memory bank.

For me I will go with:
Mouse Mcfadden of Cleveland State (1987 Tourney).
Harold "The Show" Arceneaux of Weber State (1999 Tourney).

From the Missouri Valley Conference, the 1979 Indiana State Sycamores, led by Larry Bird. . .

1998 Utah ( WAC) team, PG Andre Miller, had a great tournament.

Glen Rice - Michigan, '89 - That was my first and only Final Four and even from the nosebleed seats on the King Dome, I could see Rice lighting it up.

Miles Simon - Arizona, '97 - Came out of nowhere to lead Arizona to the promised land (they beat three No. 1 seeds!) and then promptly disappeared. But for a few weeks he was the man.

Jerry Chambers, Utah '66. MVP of Final Four even though his team was 0-2. Back then they played a 3rd place game. He lit up Kentucky and Duke.

Cedrick "Cornbread" Maxwell, UNC-Charlotte. Got the 49ers to the Final Four in 1977.

Artis Gilmore, University of Jacksonville. Got them to title game in 1970.

Fennis Dembo, Wyoming. Cowboys went to Sweet-16. Lit up UCLA for 41.

Good thread Demian. I wish you did this more 'cause I love your ideas.:) Well thought out. And fun...makes me think and remember the good ol days.

Larry Bird ...Indiana St. He may be the all-time greatest mid-major player ever!!!

Jamar Nelson. St. Joseph's...'04...I love those point guards who score.

Szcerbiak and Harold "the show" Arceneaux are great memories as well. and who will ever forget Brice Drew's shot? Yes....This is the time of year to remember all the The Best that life brings us.

However, one can not talk about March Madness without talking about: Matt Santangelo, Richie Frahm, and Casey Calvary off the '99 team.

Before there was even so called "mid major" teams, Bill Bradley in 1965 led the Princeton Tigers to third place in the NCAA Tournament behind UCLA and Michigan. In the third place game against Wichita State, Bradley scored 58 points.

BUMP. I remember that year we all wrote "44 Ever" on our shoes. One of my fav all time tourney memories. I think it was the 89 season.

Gary Trent had some great games for Ohio U.

Artis Gilmore, Pembrook Burroughs and Rex Morgan...Jacksonville

Darrell "Dr.Dunkenstein" Griffith

That was the 1990 tourney...1st/2nd round at Long Beach Arena. Absolutely the best 2 days of basketball I've watched in person. The '86 tourney held in Long Beach was also incredible...Willie Glass, Chuck Person, Walter Berry, et al...also the best dunk I've ever seen by 6'5" Shan Ferch of Montana State over Walter Berry.

how about Darvin Ham

he played for texas tech I think

his teammate puts up a shot, he fills the lane ala Casey Calvary and KRAMS home this dunk that destroys the 2 north carolina players and the backboard. Never breaks my heart to see NC players getting dunked on. :)
