Not sure if many know this... but Matt Dorr, a graduate of Mt. Spokane high school here in spokane is heading to USD to play under Bill Grier. Dorr spent a year at West Point prep school and played last year under USD's assistant Mike Burns at Community Colleges of Spokane. Best of luck to Matt

Interesting. Has anyone seen him play? CC of Spokane is hardly a hotbed of hoops - was he just overlooked and is a legit talent or will he be a walk-on? Anyone know?

hes a great shooter, which is why he was recruited by san diego. He was initially heading to the University of Idaho but when Burns decided to go to USD, Matt followed. He is on scholarship, however there is a possibility he will red shirt.

Interesting. Best of luck to him in sunny SD. A great 3-pt threat would be a big addition to USD's squad even this year.

There's also a good chance he could see a lot of minutes and perhaps even start.

USD has everybody back. Doubt that a JC transfer specialist cracks the starting lineup.

I have some insider information. What SDU doesn't have is a shooter. Matt is definitely that and is a very improved defensive player under coach Burns. Let's just say it's a better possibility then you may think.

I don't see how that's possible unless you bench De'Jon Jackson which I don't think is really that likely. He's our best defensive player. To bench Trumaine would also be silly as Grier likes to run Brandon Johnson at the 2 guard. Yeah, with the chemistry we had last year I seriously doubt he starts (unless he's amazing and has experience in the motion offense). I wouldn't be surprised if he got pt, but as of now I look as our starting lineup as pretty set.

edit: and we're USD, not SDU. I'm not sure how much inside info you could possibly have if you're still calling us SDU.

No offense but I could really care less what it is, USD or SDU is all the same to me. I don't have USD inside info just Matt Dorr inside info. I never said he was starting just that it's more of a possibility then some may think.

Best of luck to Matt. Its a small world - as a 7th grader he played up on an 8th grade AAU team that my son was on. Nice shot even then!

Really not that cool to be so dismissive. USD is the proper abbreviation. Unless of course UG is proper in referencing the University of Gonzaga.

But this wasn't dismissive sittingon?

And no, I wouldn't really care if someone outside of Gonzaga said UG instead of GU.

Wasn't meant to be dismissive on my part, cggon. Just an opinion. Have studied both the USD & SMC line-ups carefully as I expect them to be very good. IMHO, a kid that spends a year at a JC in what I believe is not a very strong league will have a hard time cracking the line-up of a Round of 32 team with everyone back. But alas, I have no insider information.

The difference between SDU & USD is however not an opinion but a factual mistake. And to tell a student of that institution that you don't care is dismissive.

No problems though. There is certainly room on my list for one more. You make 10.
