From Gary Parrish (http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/10924388) ...

Arkansas junior Patrick Beverley, a shooting guard who was expected to be the team's best player, will miss the entire season for academic reasons, a source has told CBSSports.com.

The university made an official announcement Friday night without providing details. The news release said, "Junior guard Patrick Beverley will not compete for the Razorbacks in the 2008-09 basketball season."

Beverley, a junior, averaged 12.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists for the Razorbacks last season. Geemineez! How does something like that happen? Do you not have to wonder what the oversight has to be for a situation like that to sneak up on the team and the university? Maybe should have been in summer school last July instead of playing for the US on the U19 team?

I had noticed yesterday Arkansas #108 rank on CollegeHoopsNet's 144 teams in 144 days (http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/200809-arkansas-basketball-preview-108-55100), and wondered about Rotnei Clark's feelings going into the season, with CHN's projected finish for the Razorbacks being ...

Projected Post-season Tournament: none

On the other hand, he could expect lots of time playing, now even more ... but leading to ... what?

Beverly is really good. I watched Arkansas play a few times and was impressed by this kid.

Rotnei Clarke must shine sooner than later. I suspect he will do just that.
