View Full Version : GUnit of the . . . shoes?

seriously- this is the weirdest thing I have ever seen and wonder if we have Woohoo to thank for this....

Reebok is marketing a shoe called the "G Unit"-- the pair I bought (sorry) are all white with blue trim. They say G Unit on the side very prominently.

Yup--I bought 'em--they are nice court shoes, marketed at $90.00--I got mine for $40 . . . but G Unit shoes? Too cool for school.

Go Zags-- (Got mine at Big Five in Wenatchee, Washington)

(edited to add that I am a communist, a college professor and would never be employed by a company-- so, this is an honest heads up :)

The G-Unit shoes were first put out by Reebok in 2002 or 2003 marketed more toward urban teens. They were made the rap group G-Unit (which included 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, and Tony Yayo at the time and stands for Gorilla Unit). In G-Unit's single "Stunt 101" from 2003, Lloyd Banks raps about his "blue Yankee fitted G-Unit sneakers." The shoes were popular for a while back then, but G-Unit kind of dropped off as the artists put out solo albums, although they released a second group studio album 2 weeks ago. Who knows? Maybe the shoes will make a comeback.

Whatever cool they may once have had, I just ordered a pair from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007GBZR4/ref=nosim/?tag=pricegrabber2-shoes-20&creative=380333&creativeASIN=B0007GBZR4&linkCode=asn) at $24.95, so they are officially uncool now. Timing was right for new shoes for ZN.

Probably not cool, I just got a pair for $25 on Eastbay. I'm definitely too old to be cool.

This is pretty much a total violation of name infringement...I'm calling the Northwestern Patent Authorities.
