Other notes...

--A lot of you have asked me from time to time about Petteri Koponen, a first-round pick by the Blazers from last year's draft. He played in Finland this past season, and is reportedly developing well. He is travelling to the Northwest on Sunday, and will then go to Spokane to workout with some of the Gonzaga guys during the summer. Koponen has just recovered from a broken finger, but is healthy now. The Blazers will continue to evaluate him, and he will be on the summer league team again.--

I just thought that was interesting that he will be working out with the players of the summer, and it should be interesting to see how some of our guys measure up to a 1st round pick

Interesting indeed.

Nice find.

Makes me wonder if GU recruited him, and that's why he's coming to practice in Spokane.

So do you suppose he's looking at playing in D-League this year? Any word if Richie Frahm or Corey Violette have been or will be playing with the guys this summer?

Along the same lines ... does Stockton still work out with the guys in the summer/fall? One of my favorite things to do while at GU in the mid-90s was to go down to the Martin Center during the team's pick-up games and watch a hall of famer play for free.

Those were the days, Vinny. Now everything is closed tighter than Fort Knox.

Richie is in town. I'd bet Cory will be, too, if he isn't already. They'll be beating up on the younglings. :)

So if you see this guy around campus,

Calm down: It's not the Zags' latest recruit.

Petteri Koponen's NBADraft.net page (http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/petterikoponen.html)

On the other hand, if you see othese guys, run - do not walk - to the nearest internet internet connection and scream, "THEY'RE HERE!"

Sorta OT, but Koponen is unstoppable on NBA 2K8.....

Stockton's still there from time to time, and I've heard he's the dirtiest player any of them have ever played against. I don't know about your, but I wouldn't have it any other way. If the guys aren't bleeding after he's done guarding em' they're lucky. It's not in the Martin Center anymore, but I've heard first hand from D-Rav that Stockton's still as competitive as he's ever been. (That was a year ago though)

It's good to hear that Stockton still plays with the guys. thanks for the info.

As for the 'dirty player' thing ... Stockton had that rep when he was in the NBA, too. And I bet that at his age, he's probably using every trick in the book to keep up with the young fellas. That's what I do at the local YMCA, lol.
