Tough day for the GU varsity 8+ boat, which finished 6th in its first heat and 4th in its repechage heat.

A solid performance was turned in by the freshman 8+ boat, which finished 3rd in its opening heat, then second--losing to Yale in an extremely close finish--in the afternoon repechage heat to earn a spot in tomorrow's semi-finals:

1 Yale University 4 06:04.444
2 Gonzaga University 3 06:05.161
3 Dartmouth College 5 06:11.488
4 University of Pennsylvania 2 06:23.503

UW won all 5 of their races.

Is UW's V-8+ rope-a-doping?

I note that several schools including Cal and Brown had significantly better times in the preliminary heats.

There is no love lost between Cal and UW.

UW cut 14 seconds off of its first time today and beat Cal by a second, 5:39 to 5:40.

Both advance to the finals.

Should be interesting.

I know the UW Varsity 8 hasn't lost since the Grand Final in 2006. Like 17 or so races in a row.

Congrats to GU for making the IRA, though. Nice that somebody is repping the WCC.

Men's Crew is not a WCC sport.

Men's Crew is not a WCC sport.

It's actually not a NCAA sport. So, how about this: It's nice to see a WCC member school compete against the nations best, no matter what the sport or competition. Does that appease you?

Men's Crew is not a WCC sport.

Neither is Women's Beach Volleyball, but I sure enjoyed watching the USD women in the Final Four against #1 USC (on CBS's college sports station).

Absolutely amazing.

And the volleyball was pretty good, too.

GU freshman 8+ won its second consecutive heat (the 3rd final) and finished #13 in the nation.

There was a time when NONE of the sports were funded or in a league as such. It's the competition; the colleges; the young men and women.......they all make up the wonderful world of college athletics. Enjoy the kids and salute them and their efforts. Just my opinion..... but in the end: GO ZAGS!!!!!
