Spitzer gave a beautiful speech regarding the dignity of the human soul at the 2008 commencement today.

Pendo, Kuso, Sorenson and Heytfelt all received their diplomas today (actually an invitation to pay 10.00 to the GU alumni...diploma to be sent later ;) )

Congratulations to our graduating players, fans and hardworking students!!

love,

Congrats indeed ... to do all that they do ... AND still get their diploma is an accomplishment of which they, and we, should be proud.

Adding congrats!

So Sorenson has graduated but he was on the roster (http://gozags.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/gonz-m-baskbl-mtt.html) last year as RS JR, so will he stick around for post-grad stuff and walk on again this coming season, or does he have some better use for that tuition dough?

Better put up one of those great pics ofAndrew from this past season, just in case!

I'm pretty sure I heard he is coming back next year. I bet zagnut08 could let us know for sure though.

That part was good, but did you recall the way he opened his speech?

The man attempted to draw a direct and scientific link to the creation theory using the new physics singularity theory. I enjoyed the speech, but heh, as a thinking person, I just wasn't impressed with this portion of the speech. I don't want to derail this thread too much, however, so i'm going to shut up on that!

I also like how grauduations improve every year. Like the year I graduated, I was the only person in the entire class to receive national honor cords for Religious Studies, yet it was completely unrecognized (They're the persons wearing red cords instead of yellow for getting Summa Cum Laude in Religious Studies courses). In 2008 there were two of these students, and they were at least recognized in the program as Religious Studies Scholars.

This year there were like .....2 engineering majors who received Summa Cum Laude. That's very impressive for that major.

Sorenson is coming back for sure, got his gmat taken care of and will be getting an MBA next year.

Great to see 4 guys from the team up there, something to be proud of.

Took my last stroll around campus today before seeing the parents head off, now its time to pack everything up before I start the drive back to southern california

Krozman. Great pictures. I really like the one of Pendo and Heytvelt. It is really such a great thing to see these guys get their degrees as well as do all that they do in basketball. It is such a great accomplishment.

Congratulations to all the graduates of the Class of 08, especially all the student-athletes. I'm curious to know, in what subjects did the four MBB grads major?

I'll miss watching Pendo and Kuso on the next edition of the Gonzaga Bulldogs. I'm looking forward to another year of Josh and Andy. They all have demonstrated to me the nobility of the human spirit in different ways. Kudos.

krozman,

you were at the bowl level of the arena...

I got that same pic of Josh and Pendo from the "balcony".

One of the best moments...

but my Niece graduating Magna Cum Laude was the BEST!

:D

I see your Magna Cum Laude, and I raise you a Summa Cum Laude! Actually I'm pretty sure my sister was magna too. She had the honor cords, just forget which one it was.

I remember graduating in 2000 thinking I was such a stud because I was the only person in my class with Red honor cords with a Summa Cum Laude in Religious Studies. It took some time and experience for me to realize how indifferent the rest of the world was of my accomplishment. Even now, I realize that the only two people that will ever care are (1) my mother, whom will never understand why I don't go to church despite getting a religion degree, (The "closest you can get to being a priest and be married" award)and (2) my children, whom I will corrupt into believing I was awesome before I became weird and "parental."

SUB POLL: How many reading this post have framed their degree and still have it hanging on your wall? I have my college degree, law degree, and my certification to practice law still in a hard cardboard envelope they came in, and I've never been able to justify spending $400 plus for having them professionally framed for the office. It's just one of those "i'll get around to it" things. Maybe at my funeral my kids will do it for me.

Degrees are framed only because I'm not creative enough to adorn my office walls otherwise, and the frames were gifts. Certificate is in the cardboard envelope it came in.

Josh and Kuso: Sports Management
Andrew Sorenson: Business (not sure what concentration)
Pendo: English and Philosophy (I believe)
