I recall someone wondering what Manny will be doing before he gets to GU.
As you know Manny has been enrolled in NEDA this year, and still has a year to go to finish grade 12. Yesterday (May 6th) he would have attended the trials for the Canadian U18 basketball team that will be competing in the FIBA Americas Championship, July 14-18 in Formosa, Argentina.
I have speculated on the Hooplife site who the team will take, but needless to say I would be awfully suprised if they don't take Manny along as the starting SG/SF.
The NEDA team that went to the AST in March did not include some of Canada's other top U18 basketballers who are not part of NEDA (this is one difference between NEDA and the AIS in Australia who generally get all the best talent in the country).
That being said he should have the inside running at the 2/3 spots with the only other real threat being Alwayne Bigby who also plays that position.
The team may also include top grade talents;
6'9" F, Tristan Thompson (Texas comit. & St. Benedicts prep starter as a Sophmore,and is ranked top 5 in the class of 2010)
6'0" PG Junior Cadougan (Louisville looking at him seriously), extensive international experience already (was the point guard for Canada at the 2006 AST)
6/4" SG Tyler Murray (Comitted to Wagner College)
6'10" PF Maurice Walker (uncomitted)
6'9" PF Marc Trasolioni (a rugged PF Gonzaga could have had him, but he is now comitted to Santa Clara)
This team along with the NEDA core players could win the tournament or at least should place high enough to make next years World Championships where Manny will get even more international experience.
I will provide a link to the tournament website when it gets closer so anyone who wants to follow Manny and the team can.
