    Manny Arop's summer task 2008

I recall someone wondering what Manny will be doing before he gets to GU.

As you know Manny has been enrolled in NEDA this year, and still has a year to go to finish grade 12. Yesterday (May 6th) he would have attended the trials for the Canadian U18 basketball team that will be competing in the FIBA Americas Championship, July 14-18 in Formosa, Argentina.

I have speculated on the Hooplife site who the team will take, but needless to say I would be awfully suprised if they don't take Manny along as the starting SG/SF.

The NEDA team that went to the AST in March did not include some of Canada's other top U18 basketballers who are not part of NEDA (this is one difference between NEDA and the AIS in Australia who generally get all the best talent in the country).

That being said he should have the inside running at the 2/3 spots with the only other real threat being Alwayne Bigby who also plays that position.

    The team may also include top grade talents;

6'9" F, Tristan Thompson (Texas comit. & St. Benedicts prep starter as a Sophmore, and is ranked top 5 in the class of 2010)
6'0" PG Junior Cadougan (Louisville looking at him seriously), extensive international experience already (was the point guard for Canada at the 2006 AST)
6/4" SG Tyler Murray (Comitted to Wagner College)
    6'10" PF Maurice Walker (uncomitted)
6'9" PF Marc Trasolioni (a rugged PF Gonzaga could have had him, but he is now comitted to Santa Clara)

This team along with the NEDA core players could win the tournament or at least should place high enough to make next years World Championships where Manny will get even more international experience.

I will provide a link to the tournament website when it gets closer so anyone who wants to follow Manny and the team can.

That is a pretty interesting group to choose from, My picks are Walker and Boyton for the starting guards and Stephenson/Witherspoon on the Wing, not sure about the bigs though.

Canada will do very well if they can keep up with this team, in saying that it will depend on whether or not Tristan Thompson and Junior Cadougan play. The NEDA group will have the advantage of playing together against some decent competition beforehand.

If Manny can play with these guys then there will be no doubting his potential.

I saw Holliday and Hamilton at the Maxx Preps Holiday Classic, and fell in love with both of them. Looks like UCLA has a strong incoming class the next two seasons.

Playing against those USA kids will be a challenge for Mangisto. It's also a great opportunity to 1) prove yourself and 2) learn what's needed to elevate your game. It's all good for Arop.

Manny was listed in the 32 coming to the camp last weekend ,

Most of the listed where as expected with the exception of Junior Cadougan who would have made the team if he attended. That will be a big loss.

Manny's name was mentioned in the introduction and barring anything unforseen will make the team and start at the 2 or 3 depending on who they are playing.

If everyone hasn't had the chance to see the video to the link that OZ provided, it's got a lot of Manny content. Check it out, very exciting.
