I think we'll get a #11 seed.

Some overrated #7 from a BCS conference then take down the #2 and go all the way.

i'd take that... lunardi has us as a 13 as of earlier today...he is good about getting the teams right but he is sometimes off when it comes to seeding...i'd like to stay on the bottom of the bracket if possible..that should be our reward for our ooc schedule

Boy this didnt take long. I'm thinking a 10. They've worked well for us in the past. I also believe the committee will thank us for making their decision easier. Our win allows them to make a more comfortable decision on another like team.

Some 5 or 6 seed out there is not going to be very happy when they find out they're playing Gonzaga.

Predict a 12 seed. . .and we all know 12 seeds love to munch on 5 seeds !!

Can I put a $100 on a 9 or 10. The committee will reward GU for their OOC schedule and send a message - if you schedule tough we recognize it and reward you for it.

No, no, please not a 9. I'd rather have an 11 or 12.

#9 seeds don't have a very good track record in the second round ( 'cuz they have to face # 1 seeds ). . .I'm with you, Uber. I think 10 - 11 - 12 are realistic. I don't think the Zags will get rewarded for their tough schedule; I hope I'm wrong.

IMO, a good reward for the Zags' tough schedule would be their playing close to home and not having to take another long road trip.

We play anyone anywhere. We're going to the tournament to win it. We don't care what order we play them. No team is tougher than the teams we already played. We have chemistry, heart and execution. We need nothing. Anyone! Anywhere!

Please God, not Southern Illinois. I would not want to see that team, that's for sure. We need to get some overconfident BCS team. SIU would put us through the grinder. I'm hoping somewhere around 10-12.

Here here. The Salukis are the only other team I'm rooting for in the tourney (unless my bro talks me into being a coug fan). The Salukis will be coming out strong, especially after their conference tourney final loss to Creighton.

One interesting thing to watch is whether the Salukis get a good seed finally and do what GU did a few years back against Wyoming, i.e. blow it.

This is an average of bracket ratings from multiple sites, so 13 is my guess too.

http://bracketproject.atspace.com/comparison.htm

For what it's worth, following are the Zags' seedings since '99:

1999: 10
2000: 10
2001: 12
2002: 6
2003: 9
2004: 2
2005: 3
2006: 3

They will be rewarded for their tough schedule - too many teams schedule dogsh*t OOC and the committee has made it a point to change this - now thier definition of a "reward" may differ from mine. And you bring this up in your post. It is quite possible that the Zags stay a 12 seed but play in Columus or Chicago as opposed to Winston-Salem.

I think best case scenario for the Zags would be to hit an 11 or 12 seed, as the 5 and 6 seeds give the zags a good chance at finding A) a once hot team that has cooled off or B) an overated BCS school AND also (most importantly) gives the Zags a winnable second round matchup as they avoid the 1 and 2 seeds.

However, it should be noted that there are not many fraudulent teams in the dance and regardless of the seed the Zags WILL play a team that is capable of beating them on any given night. We will need to play very good to make any kind of run in the tourney.

Go zags!

SEEDS matter. I remember when the good old underdog days were here. We were the 14th and 15th seeds and went farther than we have in the new millenium. The Lower or Higher(however you want to look at it)seed we get, the better we do. Luck is always on our side when we have above a ten it seems like. Anywhoo, this was Few's strat all along. Hes been planning this since day one.

The reason why I like that 13 seed is that I think the Zags, if they play well, can beat any 4 or 5 seed in this tournament. The 4/5 types will not be as good as Memphis, for example......

What I meant when I wrote "seeds dont matter" is that we can spend all day guessing seeds, but if the Zags dont play near perfect basketball they will not make a run deep into the tourney, whether they are a 10, 11 or even a 1 seed. But you are right, I also think this was Few's strategy ;)

Following is a list of our seedings and the outcome in the tournament since 1999.

1999 (10) Elite 8
2000 (10) Sweet 16
2001 (12) Sweet 16
2002 (6) Round of 64
2003 (9) Round of 32
2004 (2) Round of 32
2005 (3) Round of 32
2006 (3) Sweet 16

I don't much care what seed we get except for that I don't want 'em to be an 8 or 9. I'd much prefer avoiding a #1 until at least the Sweet-16.

Looking at what Native posted, though, we've been a 10 twice and a 12. Anyboy know what our RPI was during those three years? Since we'll likely be in the low-70s/high-60s this year, it'd be interesting to see the comparison.

Jaszag, following is a list of our seeding, results, and in the right column, our RPI going into the tournament:

Year Seed Finish RPI
1999 (10) Elite 8 (42)
2000 (10) Sweet 16 (35)
2001 (12) Sweet 16 (75)
2002 (6) Round of 64 (20)
2003 (9) Round of 32 (43)
2004 (2) Round of 32 (9)
2005 (3) Round of 32 (10)
2006 (3) Sweet 16 (10)

Got to like that 75 going into the Sweet 16 in 2001!

RPI's for all years can be found by clicking on the tabs on the top of this page: Ken Pom (http://kenpom.com/rpi.php?y=2007)

I say bring on the 8 or 9 seed. I have not been impressed with many of the top seeds all year. I would love to catch them just after they thump some number 16 and think their all high and mighty. Then along comes little ol GU and thump goes their season.

Much rather play a #1 on 1 days rest, than a weeks rest.

I say we get a 9 seed and play someone like NC State, VCU or Creighton and would play in the Ohio State bracket.

Good to see everyone from the old board. I was sitting around on the updated scout.com board trying to figure out where everyone was. Thanks for the message to my ezbox CDC or I'd still be there sifting through worthless garbage.

It's taken me years to get there, but I have finally decided that when it comes to the NCAA tourney, Seedings are simply numbers. nothing more, nothing less. I have yet to hear any Tourney Champion player or coach give thanks to whatever place the committee started them from. With so much parity in college basketball these days the differences between the top ranked team at any point and those ranked in the 20s (or even lower) is hardly negligible. You don't have to look any further than GU to see that. A team that isn't even sniffing at the top thirty in the rankings and look at the damage they have inflicted on teams.

So Give them a 16 for all I care!!! Bring it on!!

GO ZAGS!!!!!

Spike94

I really don't respect the seeding process and here is why. If the Zags get a number 12 seed (as ESPN has predicted) it is a crock. Another 12 seed would be Vermont. Are you kidding me? We took Memphis to a last second shot in OT w/o Josh. We played by far the hardest non conference schedule in the country. And just because we play in a conference where everyone has pretty much given up and is not working to get better we get punished. All I have to say is go ahead give us a #12. And then show the faces of the #5 on CBS as they announce their opponent.

Peace

The bottom of the bracket is the place to be, I like 10 for some reason...probably because i was at the game against Minnesota when we upset them, then Stanford and then Florida, and began all of this GU basketball madness, this board wouldnt be here if it wasnt for that team going to the ELITE 8... a 10 seed is a good spot for a hungry Zags team.

Yes, exactly correct. You want to put off facing those 1's and 2's until you absolutely have to play them. I'd like a 12 or 13 seed.
