View Full Version : Which song would you like as an intro at K2?

I will start a poll tomorrow.

Feel free to add a song that you think is appropriate. My choice is Headstrong by Trapt.

Enter Sandman -- Metallica
Some Heads are Gonna Roll -- Judas Priest
Get it on-- Kingdom Come

Wow, some of you have a hair trigger when it comes to dishing out neg. rep.

The reason I started a new thread was to give every one the chance to pimp their song. I would then use that to make a fair poll. I did not want to steal the other thread's mojo. It was more of a discussion of whether we needed a new song and if Zombie Nation had run its course.

This thread has no momentum so consider it closed.

Cowboys From Hell (http://youtube.com/watch?v=FV2xVvJddxY) is probably inappropriate? with the "hell" part and all...

But its 10x more appropriate than Soljaboy playing throughout the game if you ask me... *shrug*

Or, while it is not original, Seven Nation Army... It isn't original in the least because it is used all over the world in... Soccer. Imagine the Kennel Club in Unison? Bet they sound better than these guys. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=ByD5s0GbJpk) It would be easy for all of K2 to get involved with this one as well.

I second guniverse...
its got to be darude - sandstorm
the only problem with it is that it might be too exciting for people to handle

I don't think Sandstorm would be good.

It is like 9 or 10 years old I think. Most GU students have been hearing that song since high school when it was overplayed in every HS gym. It gets really annoying after about 3 listens too IMO. Zombie Nation is fine and so is Bring em' out until they find another good rap song which crosses over well.

I really think that "We will rock you" would be huge. Yeah, it's old but the students could get into it with the stomping. With Sandstorm their is just a bunch of kids trancing out. Plenty of schools use we will rock you and I think it would be a good lead in right before the tip off. Zombie Nation into we will rock you would be great.

Zagco loves Enter Sandman for sporting event entrances, but he also loves Ozzy Osborne's Crazy Train. The beginning of Crazy Train makes for a raucus entrance.

IMO, Chargers:16-0...Broncos 0-16. Bronco franchise moves to Hong Kong to finally become what they have always wanted, communist.

I must vote to keep Zombie Nation - - it's my ring tone!!! And you know how much of a hassle it is to change your ring tone..... :)

I must vote...that I couldn't possibly care less.

I'd rather have something a little more primal and less predictable than rock or techno.

Maybe some Taiko drums and skirling bagpipes type of action:

Dont have a specific song to list, but i have to say most of the songs ive seen would be horrible. songs to get basketball players pumped are usually hip hop/rap, not headbanger tunes. i want the players to like the songs they are coming out to and help them get amped, not the fans who want a rock concert. :lmao:

Kennel Club could go nuts with this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s2tGWJ5pMo&feature=related)

I agree with your statement about getting the players pumped, but the question was what would we like. If you want the old farts, fat cats, and blue bloods to get excited and on their feet creating some noise maybe we should play something that they like.

What ZN!!!!! You didn't my choice????

ZN is conducting an extensive word-of-mouth survey, and while the results are not yet complete, her tentative conclusion is that among the professions, your physicians are the most likely to rick-roll you. Word to the wise: Let Mikey look first before opening a YouTube link provided by anyone wearing a white coat.

mendiant loves the idea of Taiko Drums and thinks that the "Bomb Squad" can be replaced by some serious big Asian precusions.

It is odd, but why not go there???

How about a medley of Gregorian chants sung by monks in tonsure and sackcloth?

04-20-2008, 08:35 AM
thanks for the input. Here's what the chat has made me think about.

It doesn't much matter what song or songs are selected as much as the need to connect everyone in the building and on the campus with each other at every opportunity.

And music plays a huge part in that and is imortant and needed and necessary. ANd right before tip off, it is great for getting everyone into the immediate mood for battle. It is a great start and the music should be worthy of that kind of launch.

But beyond the music and the natural breaks in the action that is filled with music, I think there could be more to the event.

I would personally like to connect with more people, students in particular, if that is possible, and get a better sense of what it is like to grow in the GU athletics environment that is K2.

And since GU has mushroomed to national prominence through the basketball program, well it seems like a perfect time to connect, too, with each other, without taking anything away from the central focus of a game, but, rather enhancing it.

transposing that into the pre and perhaps post "event" that is the game would involve getting more student organizations to put on some sort of demonstration, be it singing, dancing, exhibiting whatever it is they do at GU to connect with each other.

We have, for e.g., the ROTC, scouts, etc., march onto the floor with the colors prior to the national anthem and march off when its completed. There have been many students who actuall sing the anthem. all great.

But what about the baseball team bringing in/escorting the flag; the soccer team; cross country; the swim team; the rowing team; the women's basketball team; the intramural championship (you name the sport) team ?

Whatever "ceremonial" event built in and around the game (not just the flag bearers) that particular game could easily incorporate an area of excellence or sports or GU-centric organization to be highlighted on a given game.

A few sentences of introduction and a chance for those "other" athletes to bask in the bright lights and attention by just walking around the floor, waving, like olympians while the crowd responds.

It wouldn't hurt the basketball program and team to clap for their fellow high achieving non-basketball classmates, either. I think they'd be thrilled to join, in, too, like they do with the Kennel Club after nearly every game.

I think it would help us all remind ourselves that the basketball program, for the most part, has pretty much made all those other sports possible. But at the same time, there is room for everyone & everyone is, in the final analysis, part of this larger entity known as the GU nation.

Such little advertisements could even be shown on the giant cameras during one of those long tv timeouts. those bigscreens are underutilized, anyway, imo. They don't even show us very many controversial plays (I guess someone fears a riot or a stampede) or replays, either.

There must be a hundred different organizations on campus. Why not use the forum to point out those who have shown some sort of success or excellence as part of connecting us all to the most visible, popular and succesful sports event on campus: GU basketball ?

Even some of those great GU advertisements over the years could be run on the screen. I'm thinking along the lines of those school or department promos that show up on the rose bowl, featuring the school. It's about pride and spirit and all that. The equipment and the energy is already there. Just feed us and fuel the energy in the process.

I would finally like to emphasize none of this, like the motivational music, should ever draw away from the game itself. It should only serve to enhance the focus and lend itself to the total experience of the game at hand.

We talk about focus, toughness, connectedness and team work on the basketball floor all the time.

One way to encourage more of that would be to demonstrate that many, many other students & teams at GU have been successfully competing in sports, too, and serve as great examples of success, school spirit and the attitude of champions as well.

Go Zags !

Here is a link to listen to the beginning of the song that I think would be a good replacement for bring em out right before the tip. It has a dark side to it that would freak me out if I was a visiting team.
