From a very reliable source:
Mike Montgomery has a couple more days to decide if he wants the job. If he doesnt, Bill Bayno will be the next LMU head coach. Anyone have any opinion?

Montgomery would be an unbelievable get for LMU. Bayno has had success at UNLV.

Either way, it's gonna be a major rebuilding effort down there in Westchester. LMU really has to show commitment to building a program down there before anybody can get excited. A hire of Montgomery would absolutely get things off to a fast start.

Let me get this right: Montgomery would turn down Cal and take LMU's job? Montgomery lives in the Bay Area, and he forgo the 4th best Pac 10 job to take a low level WCC job? I don't think so.

Shouldn't have fired Rodney Tention in the first place.

the reason he could possibly take the job would be because he wants his son to be able to take over as a head coach after Mike retires. John would be given this opportunity at LMU.

Cal is the 4th best Pac-10 job? That's news to me.

I have UCLA, Arizona and Stanford at 1, 2, 3. Oregon, UW, Cal and USC tie for #4. So yes, it's the 4th best job in the Pac 10.

After UCLA, Arizona, and Stanford its kind of a crapshoot. Teams like WSU, USC, UW, Oregon, Cal have all had recent success and ASU is also doing quite well. But I don't think its that big of a stretch to call Cal the fourth best job in the Pac-10.

I might put USC as fourth just because of it's name and what goes along with that, but Cal is right there

Just like ASU, there is no reason Cal shouldn't have consistent success.

No one cares what you have, we go off of this season...not to mention, Stanford loses the Lopez twins...

I am going to have to respectfully disagree, and this is from someone who actually likes Cal.. I would for sure put them behind UCLA, Stanford, Arizona, and USC, and based on the fact that the Golden Bears have been fairly irrelevant in college basketball since the Kidd days, I'd add Oregon and maybe UW to that list. Cal is still way, way ahead of Oregon State though.

Bayno is being pimped by the Pumps.

Bayno is being pimped by the Pumps.

yes he is. Which could be a good thing (Bruce Pearl) or a not so good thing (Eddie Sutton.... yes hes a hall of fame coach.. but that hiring did not really progress USF)... and plus the pump's seem somewhat sleazy to me

Absolutely. If they could retain players from their own backyard, then they'd be a top 25 team every year.

I would doubt it. Not sure though. I just think that John attended Loyola Marymount, and obviously LMU could use a Mike Montgomery more than Cal, there would have been extra perks given to Mike.

I just can't see Montgomery working for the hated enemy (Cal) of the program he built from the ground up (Stanford). Moreover, Trent Johnson at Stanford is his ex-assistant....

Monty doesn't need the money. I think if he gets back into coaching, it will be a situation like LMU (although that slot has now apparently been filled) where he can groom his son to be the next head coach after he departs. His son is not guaranteed to take over if he goes to a big program like Cal.

Doesn't Montgomery have a son at LMU. Maybe that was the basis for the rumor??
