I hope this is a case where the votes were in before the Bracket Buster games were complete. Drake knocks off the #8 team in the nation and drops 2 spots in the polls.

BTW, GU is 24 in the AP.

Awesome. Game with St. Marys will be 2 top 25 teams. Wonder if that has ever happened in the WCC before.

Were the Zags ranked a couple years ago when UW was #8? Best game in K2 for me (and the only one). I am going to Saturday's game and am estatic! I really hope St. Mary's beats SD tongiht.

Yahooo!! Go Zags...

To the best of my knowledge the answer would be no.

"#24 Gonzaga plays tonight." Like the sound of that! Why does it seem so long since we were ranked last? It's good to be home - back where we belong among the nation's top 25.

I thought both Pepperdine and GU were ranked once in 2002...but I could be wrong.

From WCC Notes for the week:

Two WCC Teams Ranked In the Top 25
For the first time in 34 years, two WCC teams earned a top 25 ranking at the same time. On Dec. 10th Saint Mary’s joined Gonzaga in both the AP and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches top 25 polls. The Gaels made an appearance at No. 24 in both rankings, while the Zags checked in at No. 19 in the AP poll and No. 23 in the Coaches poll. The last time that the WCC had two teams ranked at the same time in the top 25 was during the 1973-74 season. San Francisco and UNLV, then a member of the WCC, formerly known as the West Coast Athletic Conference (WCAC), were ranked in the top-25 at the same time. Both San Francisco and UNLV earned preseason rankings and both were ranked in the AP’s December 4, 1973 poll.

Couple this blurb with the timing of the rankings and I'd say that unless they were both ranked in season back in 73-74 then no, otherwise yes. Could I be any more vague in my answer?

Man, I guess the world is back on it's axis. The Zags ahead of St. Mary's in the AP poll. The ESPN/USA Today pollsters need to wake up though. :)

Once again, the AP rankings are better than the ESPN. North Carolina ranked ahead of Memphis is ridiculous.

:agreed:

in regards to drake, i think their dropping is more a reflection of their loss to bradley...if they beat bradley and then butler, they would have risen in the polls. but clearly the voters see drake's loss to bradley as bigger than their upset over butler. imo.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now all the Zags need to do is stay in the Top 25. Beat SMC, SCU,and PDX!! We REALLY needed this! It's been months!!! I'll sleep better now:)

My my, this up and down season has been taxing. It seems to me that this time off might be just what we needed. Healing and all. If we can get the rhythm now, it's the beginning of the 2nd season after this rest. 5 more games (including the WCC shindig) and then comes the NCAA's. The 2nd season has begun!

No love from Dickie V or Seth Davis, per Pollspeak.com (http://pollspeak.com/pollstalker/pollstalker.php?r=T&s=3&p=3&w=17&t1=124&t2=0&v=0).

Ah! I see that Seth made the list of "Extreme Voters (http://pollspeak.com/pollstalker/pollstalker.php?r=F&s=3&p=3&w=17&t1=124&t2=0&v=0)."

Love the pic, ;) Reno, but Seth did write one of my all-time favorite Zag stories (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writers/seth_davis/11/11/gonzaga.diary/) by a national sportswriter about his visit to Spokane in 2005.

Great photo, RenoZag. I have a stuffed Pine Martin that looks exactly the same (only the coloring is a little more even). Maybe I should re-name it Seth?
